The Haze - a branch of the Muramoto culinary empire of Madison.

The Haze has got to be close to a year old now, and it took the place of Kushi Bar (RIP) and the original Muramoto location on King Street.

This place is not a beer bar - it's a fancied up barbeque joint. The menu features staples like pulled pork, ribs, brisket, etc prepared in either eastern (asian) or western (american) manners. While eastern may sound awesome, bbq on rice just doesnt work for me. If your bbq perspective includes the southern US, you may be a little dissapointed. Still - it's quality bbq downtown with some pretty solid sides (fries, sweet potato fries, cornbread and some of the best fried pickles ever to name a few).

They do also have beer, hence its placement on this website. I was in for dinner, actually sitting outside on king st, a few weeks ago and enjoyed a DFH Palo Santo - the waitress said "i dont know how you guys can drink that stuff", so dont expect a permeating craft beer culture. There are maybe 10 taps - all of them are good...victory prima pils, 1-2 bells, 1-2 ale asylums, 1 three floyds, and various other rotating taps.

At the end of the day it just doesnt have that level of absolute excellence that either Muramoto - King Street or Muramoto - Hilldale have. It's placement is nice with Maduro, great dane, old fashioned, etc all within a 5 minute walk.
