St. Pauli Girl: Truly awful. In the traditional 12 ounce green bottle, with a date of 11/03 marked somewhere on the back. Very pale yellow, with a big white frothy head, could not hide the incredible skunked aroma. The aroma was also dominant in the taste as well. This was a substantially below average beer, until about four hours later, when the skunk taste was still there. Bad.

skunk, skunk skunk. tastes like corona that's been sitting in the sun for days. very nice foamy head and nice bubbles.
i really can't taste anything except for sourness. very light hops, very little malt. stale bread. almost tastes like onions. I really hated this beer. not much else to say. maybe i got a bad batch.

I really do not like this one. From the standard green bottle, poured into clear dixie cup. Golden pour with decent fluffy white head. Aroma is skunk and light hay, no sweetness, a bit of dryness. Taste is like sucking on a skunk's ass. Why do breweries continue to use the green bottles. I have had this multiple times and no improvement. I tend to prefer the standard macros like Bud Light to this one.

Appearance: Medium yellow with a small, white, fizzy, rapidly diminishing head. Very little lacing.

Smell: Either I’ve bought mishandled beers from two different places, or this beer is just nasty skunk. For the moment I popped the cap, it was horrible. Underneath the skunk I could pick up hay, grass and corn.

Taste: Some half-decent malts under a nasty skunk that really comes out on the dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Light body, dry texture, moderate-lively carbonation.

Drinkability: Maybe I’ll try it yet again sometime, and hopefully be able to edit my post to give the beer more favorable marks, but it’s not like I’m rating this on one bottle (though the last bottle went down the drain). You know it’s bad when you’re burping up skunk 5 minutes later. Just downright nasty!

St. Pauli Girl
bottle to glass

pale yellow, no lace. smells like a skunk. tastes worse, like corn and rotten cabbage. mouthfeel like water, drinkability very low.

i had two of these, both of which were skunked. quite a disgusting beer. a friend had to finish both for me.

Pours a two-finger white head that fades quickly leaving no lace. Clear very pale amber color. Light carbonation and light bodied. Skunky nose. Starts and finishes with some hops and a trace of sweetness, there is a dry metallic after taste. I don't see why this is rated as high as it is, poor example of a pilsner. Freshness date - Nov 2005. $1.49 for a 12oz bottle from Tully's Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

a: Pale/Light gold in color. Pours a strong head with a sustainable creamy head

s: The skunky smell overwhelms all other aromas. There is a slight spiciness smell. Can also smell a little sulfur

t: Not much of a hop character. Can taste a little of the noble hops up front, but they dissipate quickly. Bitterness and hop flavor are lacking. Seems to have a bit too much malt sweetness. Fairly dry finish. Skunky aroma seem to makes it's way to the taste (perhaps I am just overwhelmed by the smell)

m: Medium body with medium carbonation. Almost has a slight creaminess - could be related to the sweetness. Carbonation does not last long in the mouth

o: Not so much of a crisp, refreshing beer like a German Pilsner should be. The skunkiness aroma is just so overwhelming that it dominates the beer. Would recommend ditching the green glass to avoid the skunkiness.

The look of the bottle is classic and was appealing. However, simply opening the bottle gave a skunky aroma. Pouring it out gave a nice head and a slightly below average yellow color. The taste was merely slightly better than the odor. It's nicely carbonated, that being the highlight of the beer.

Overall, I would never drink this beer again. It's not the worst but the price point is far too high. Better than an Olde English, worse than a Corona. The skunky odor and taste really ruined this one for me.

Way too bitter and absolutely zero flavor in this beer. Still hard to drink even when ice cold. Wouldn't drink again.

24 oz. bottle. Opening the bottle hits with that pissy smell of cheap lager. Drinking it from the bottle on the train, though, I find there definitely is some kind of maltiness to it, but a mishmash of hop bitterness and staleness. No discernable beer style. Humdrum.

Pours about the palest yellow I've ever seen in a beer, crystal clear. Carbonation was readily apparent. Head was large, coarsely bubbled, and did not last long at all. Smell was skunky with maybe a little grain peeking through. Thin, watery, fizzy mouthfeel. Little bit of sweet malt flavor up front, followed by slightly grassy hop flavor. The taste was better than you'd expect it to be judging from the smell. However that skunky smell keeps this from being very drinkable!

Presentation: 12oz green glass longneck generic bottle, multicolored on white label

Appearance: clear gold color, medium head, minor lacing

Smell: sweet malt, spiciness and hops

Taste: thin body, watery mouth feel, sweet malt and some hoppy bitterness

Notes: below average brew

Appearance – Delicate light yellow in color without much of a head.

Smell – Straight skunk from forty paces out. There’s a bit of that pils hop aroma in the glass if you dare to venture close enough, but otherwise this is one of the skunkiest beers that I’ve ever had.

Taste – The nasty skunk flavors turn to pukish Gummi-Bear sweets. This is nasty with a capital “N”.

Mouthfeel – A thin body and some cheap carbonation made this one tough to swallow.

Sinkability – This one is heading for the drain.
