From BeerAdvocate Magazine #74 (Mar 2013):

Brewer’s intention is clear, as they mention that not many beers of this style are imported into the US, and perhaps even fewer are brewed here. Incredibly complex without losing its drinkable character. A prize choice here, we’d love to run into this brew every Fat Tuesday.

STYLE: Bière De Mars
ABV: 7.5%
AVAILABILITY: Seasonal

LOOK: Perfect lacing, pale copper hue

SMELL: Spicy, cotton candy, floral, herbal tea, bready, earthy, mild esters

TASTE: Sufficient crispness, peppery, gummy, ripe pears, slightly biscuity, vague mint, semidry palate, herbal, faint warmth, phenolic, drying finish

Not at all what a biere de garde should taste like. Had a hard time with my glass.

A: Golden in color, with a tan short-lived head, no lacing.

S: Sweet, reminiscent of fresh cut hay. Light fruits evident.

T: Immediate flavor is reminiscent of white grape juice, with notes of hay. A bit of sugarcane, woody natural sweetness. Pretty unique flavor. Lots of residual sweetness. Hops are evident only slightly on the tail end. Leaves a pleasant grain aftertaste.

MF: Medium-heavy bodied; the sugarcane/hay combo makes it feel heavier than I would expect. Smooth down the throat.

Overall: Very unique - I've had nothing like it before. Tasty, and very refreshing. Could see drinking this next year as a I roam the streets for Mardi Gras!

Poured into a glass chalice:

Pours golden with a thin white head that becomes wispy. Not much lacing sticks.

The smell is of honey, bread/grain, slight floral note.

The mild taste is of a honey-like sweetness, mildly spiced bread, slight floral hop touch in the finish.

It has a crisp, light to medium body with a rather abrupt finish..

It doesn't have the "musty" character that some examples have, which is fine because it is a very wide style - just an observation. Overall, it's pretty easy to drink. Not much going on - a pretty subtle brew. Sweet-leaning but with balance in the finish.
