Bought and tasted at opening autumn bok season, I like bokbeers all year long especially on a summer terrace, this is a full-bodied with pleasant shows of smoked wood sweet, vanile and burnt, spicy edge and a supporting bitter shop that shines lightly to wood

Quaffed a 0.33l bottle (€4.50) at DeRat in Utrecht on 25SEP16.

Color was chestnut-mahogany, and it was a clear brew. Had a very thin, short tan head, with minimal lacing. Aroma was pleasant, with caramel malts and a good hit of smoke present. Medium in body, it was also fairly smooth.

Taste had lots of caramel and was semisweet. The smoky character was easily noted but was not overpowering at all. Had some choco and a smidge of dark fruit with some floral hopping showing up at the finish. A solid bier!!

Nice dark brown colour with a little beige head that fades quickly. Interesting smell of smoke (well, smoked ham/sausage/cheese to be exact) and whiskey. Lots of flavours in the smell: the smoke again, combined with malt, hops and berry esters. Rich mouth feel with a pleasantly bitter aftertaste. The amount of smoke flavour seems to be just right in this beer: presence in every sip, but it never tastes like you're drinking an ashtray: all flavours get a chance to shine. Barrel matured and smoked malt: A doppelbock with a very nice twist.

Major gusher that wouldn't stop, so I poured a bit into a glass and it finally calmed down. Clearish chestnut brown color, with a large off-white head that quickly sank to a ringlet. Aroma was rubbery with a huge dose of smoked ham. Cherrywood malts, I assume, which I typically like, but it was just awful in this beer. Taste was unbearable. Dried ham up front, bland cardboardy malts, with a lingering taste of plastic and rubber. Drain pour...no comment on mouthfeel.

Light brown color with an off-white head. The head faded. There was only a little lacing. The taste, while I liked it, was not what I expect for a Doppelbock. The ingredient list said smoked malt, and I taste a light smokey flavor. That's not what I expect for a Doppelbock, but the smokey flavor with the malt flavor is a flavor I like. There's a little bitterness in the aftertaste, but it works nicely.

A light brown beer with a settling head. The head leaves only a small layer of off-white foam on the side of the glass.

The smell has some light smoky tones which remind of peat and to a minor extent rubber. Once the beer warms, the smell becomes more pleasant and has a whisky-like smell.

The taste is definatelly smoky, with the peaty smoke. The smoke is not overpowering, when swallowed, the beer leaves a short, peaty smoke, which fades quickly and makes me want more. The beer's mouthfeel is not too sweet and leaves enough room for the smoke. The dubbelbock style has become a little blurred by the smoke, but certainly a great beer.

On tap at 't Arendsnest, Amsterdam.

Pours bright cranberry with a stacked off-white head that cathedrals. Light hammy smoke on the nose, like Schlenkerla. Light red berry with whiffs of smoke, some cranberry tartness and slender hops. Sweet chewy end, tart linger. Clingy, medium and tight.

Tart, sweet, deceptively light - is this even a bock?

Lots of bright berries. Also never seen smoked malts used but not put center stage. Not a slave to style, but interesting and darn tasty.
