From bottle at home. I've been looking for an 'oyster' stout for some time. As a big barrel-aged stout fan I thought it would be enlightening to find one that was back to basics.

This was exactly what I'd hoped to find. There is nothing 'basic' about the blending of the flavors I found here. The most noticeable was a slight smoky/peatiness. Nothing like the big peat of a single malt scotch, just enough to be interesting. All the various notes were between well stated & vague, which added up to a very enjoyable & refreshing drink.

It poured to a dark, deep mahogany with head that spoke of a liveliness I like to see. The lacing was prolific & long lasting. The body was near perfect. I thought the use of oysters would add a bit of salt or brine to the flavor, but if it did it was very well managed.

This is one of those well thought out brews that everyone should try at least once just to see what can be done.

It's been a long time since I've had such an honest tasting brew, so I will be looking out for this.

Sure, I like all the gimmicks & creativity that's out there, but once in a while I like to leave the Cirque du Soleil in the box & take on a foamy mustache of stuff like this. Thank you Porterhouse.

Pours clear, reddish-brown in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is English toffee, light coffee, peat, and light brine. Light bodied, sweet and roasty with moderate carbonation. Beer really comes alive as it warms. More of the brine flavor and characteristics show which adds a very pleasant dimension. Would get this one again.

Loved this better than the Guinness. Tastier! Drinking at Porterhouse central with ribs and wings.

Listed in the "1001 Beers To Drink Before You Die," this one will have to wait until I find it again for my review.
