This place has improved since opening which was less than a year ago. Beers and food have improved. Atmosphere is casual, not too noisy to have a conversation at your table. Happy hour every day is good. I like their Red ale and the Octoberfest beers. I liked the stirfry and the club sandwich for food. Service needs some work, slow, and not very polite. Owners kick the wait staff into gear or get someone else to serve.
I'd love to see the brewing in person, please post brewing times, anyone.
We'll be back some time soon but hope for better service.

A buddy helped me and my wife finish moving and we wanted to take him and his wife to dinner before other friendes came over and we got our party on.

He and I are regulars at City Steam, so we thought we would do something else for a change. We remembered that Carsons was open and I recalled reading on here that the beer was now flowing, so we figured we would give it a shot.

regardless of what anyone might say, its a fine place. it may be the same as what Hops was, but I am not sure thats a bad thing. having never been to Hops, I thought it was a kind of cool layout.

we ate at a booth in the bar. It was Saturday night at maybe 930 or so. the place was not packed and was not empty. it was appropriately active...

I was a little bummed there was not much more of a beer selection, but knowing that they are just getting up and running, I was not overly suprised. so, at the time I was there, no seasonals.. anyhoo, the beer was good, but not great, and i have nop complaint there except for a lack of selection (something I can only assume will improve)

the service was fine, they knew everything they needed to know and were nice enough and prompt enough.

the food was actually the suprise of the night. we all(4 of us) ordered differently and each enjoyed what we got.

I got a pizza, and honestly it far surpassed my expectations. my buddy got a rack of ribs, and not only was it huge it was really good. he left his take home container at my house so I can personally vouch for it and will absolutely order the ribs next time.
the wife got some steak and a salad thing it was small, but she orderd it small by the OZ. because she is all healthy and stuff. she asked for everything on the side and all complicated and included substitutions. wait staff and kitchen got it 100% correct.
my buddies wife did just as complicated of an order with some fish dish.

all four of us were quite hap[py without meals and our beers, but we would have liked more selection on beer for sure.

just as well though, because we got to try 3 or so new beers while out and then went home and drank off the kegerator and such, so really, how good does the beer need to be? I went out to eat, and have 3 beers. 100% success!!

we will go back at least just so I can order those ribs

I did a little shopping on the Berlin Turnpike this afternoon as I was pulling into Target across the street I though to myself, "Wait, Could it be?" then my wife scoped some folks walking and I quickly realized that Carson's was up and running. I decided to go check it out.

It was in the old Hops place. Same place, same decor, same dumpy american food, same everything, still have the malt and hops shellacked into the tables! They just changed the sign.

On tap today were a: extra light, light lager, honey bock, porter, and amber red.

The light lager was the winner, followed closely by the amber red. Honey Bock was odd. The beers were what I was expecting, All pretty straightforward, nothing blew my dick off or anything. Service was fine, place was dead for a saturday evening.

I'd give this one a big skip. Go get some beer across the street from CT Bev mart and massive hotdog from Doogies or a steak n' cheese from Jersey Mike's

Cheers!

Update:

Went back after several months, and tried a few of the beers. The golden lager is a surprisingly good beer with few flaws, and is actually suited to being served in those ice cold frosty mugs (yes, they're still doing that). The porter, usually very good is suffering from some fermentation issues, and possibly an ingredient change. The red ale, which is my usual favorite, had a fusel-alcohol taste and an acrid, burnt-bitter flavor. The same was true for their "seasonal," an IPA.

I'm not sure what's going on here, but it seems like this extends beyond just "growing pains." Hopefully they can change direction quickly enough, their dining room is almost always empty and the happy hour doesn't attract many people at all. Big gaudy signs advertising meal specials are in the windows. I noticed a lot of senior citizens shuffling in, trying to grab these discount meals before it got too late.
