The Brew Pub was a nice finishing touch to the Abita Brewery Tour. Nice atmosphere, friendly & relaxing, very laid back. Nothing over the top or overly extravagant, but nicely done. The workers are polite, friendly & professional. Appears to run like a well oiled machine. Well managed & well staffed. I feel very comfortable & welcomed when I visit. I've eaten here several times & it's always been fantastic. Lots of Abita beers available with very few other beers available, as to be expected & not a problem for me. If you find yourself in the area with a little extra time on my hands, I highly recommend checking it out. CHEERS

Had a terrific burger and sampled a few really good beers. Dropped in on a Saturday night while traveling home to Texas from Alabama. The cool thing about this visit was that I just happened to be there when one of the founders of Abita (Rush Cumming) was there visiting. Terrific hearing about the origins of the brewery, the successes and failures along the way, and the pub in particular. An evening I won't forget.

Have been here three times and it never disappoints. Great selection of beer, including some guest taps. Food is incredible, always get a burger or some kind. I was able to buy beer in package along with glasses/shirts up front. It is about 2 miles from the brewery, so I would suggest going before/after a Saturday tour. Very cool spot, the grocery store next door has tons of local LA brews for purchase as well.

Went here right after we got done drinking some free beer and taking the pretty boring and somewhat uninformative tour over at the brewery just down the road as part of a bachelor party trip my buddy put together for me. The service here was friendly and fast. We happened to go here during craft beer week so we got to try their Abbey Ale on tap and get a free pint, which was nice. The Food here is fantastic. I tried a seafood po boy with Turbodog romelaude (sp?) sauce and it was absolutely delicious. If you go to Abita, I recommend you make this your lunch stop after the tour. Worth every penny.

After doing the Abita Brewery tour (which was pretty lame. After a 30 DVD and a couple of beers we were guided by a girl who knew less about beer what she was talking about and more on how to do public speaking. I wanted to learn more about the Merlin and was guided to the guy ripping tickets at the front door, who was rad, but I would have liked to talked to a brewer or someone that actually knew what was going on. rant over...) We stoppped at the Brew Pub for a bite naturally. BBQ ribs braised with Turbo Dog hit the spot!

Went here with some colleagues while visiting Stennis Space Center.

The immediate area around the restaurant is cute, with a huge gazebo which was lit up at night. There was also a bike trail running past. Inside is nice but non-descript. Fairly typical pub.

Selection is solid. Almost all Abita, but hey, that's what people come here for. Several on tap that I haven't seen in the Atlanta area, including a few seasonals.

My food was good. I had the blackened chicken. Nice amount of spice.

Our waitress was fantastic. We had a large group (12) and she didn't bat an eye about multiple people ordering beer samplers. She offered up food and beer recs. She even accurately split our checks for us.

On my tenth trip to Louisiana, I finally bit the bullet and made the one hour drive to/from Baton Rouge to cross Abita off my list of brewpubs/breweries visited.

This was my 207th brewery/brewpub visit and some could say it may not qualify as the brew pub is not owned by Abita and they do not brew anything on site. They do have an original brewing setup in the back corner for decor. I'm no appraisal expert, but it seems like $75k worth of SS brewing equipment could be better served in an actual brewery.

My visit was 5:00 on a Tuesday evening in mid March. A pleasant 78 degrees outside and I elected to sit inside at the bar to avoid a jovial group of smoking locals on the front patio.

Harvest strawberry beer in bottles (LA strawberries)
Guest beer was voodoo bengal pale ale from tin roof brewing

I went with a custom premium sampler of the pale, IPA, Andygator, SOS, and one other that I can't recall. I told the bartender I was driving and she served me a smaller pour of the black IPA and the guest pale ale.

Like all the beers I've had from LA, I really can't say anything was more than average. The pale and IPA are both hard to drink...a malty mess with no clean hop aroma/flavor. The guest beer from Voodoo was a struggle to finish - carbonated malt syrup with no "pale" characteristic at all.

Had a bowl of the gumbo which was good. The atmosphere was neat and the town of Abita is more happening that I imagined. The brewpub is on a bike trail and there is a wonderful town square next to the brewpub with an Abita beer garden for special events.

The road to/from the interstate there is a bbq joint on the west side of the road (about halfway) that has the best boudin sausage I've ever had in my life. May have been the best part of the visit.

Not much of a first impression of the place visually. The atmosphere isn't bland, it's just "normal". The selection is awful unless all you want is Abita, but why else would you go to an Abita pub if you didn't want Abita?

The food wasn't bad, but wasn't great. I got a shrimp po-boy. The shrimp were definitely frozen which is a shame. The hamburger is a solid choice. Avoid options that sound too complicated for the establishment like the Jockamo IPA crawfish cakes and Turbodog remoulade sauce. Also the crawfish cornbread was unnecessary. Just give me plain cornbread.

Service was not good. The food took forever which was strange considering that they weren't very crowded. The waitress was kind of rude, but to her benefit, I don't think she realized it.

I would only recommend if you're just coming out of the brewery tour and want some grub. Other than that I wouldn't make a special trip.

The long red and white awning led up a walkway to the doorway flanked on either side by an outdoor patio. The merchandise was right, past a wood bench and the gift shop was to the left, along the wall. The horseshoe-shaped, black-Formica topped bar was on the left side headed aft, across from the lavs. Further aft, right, were a couple of private party rooms being used for overt low seating. A long mural began behind the taps on the left wall and continued all of the way aft to the now-defunct brewhouse and FVs.

I had the Chicken Abitafeller (chicken breast, shrimp, oysters, spinach) for lunch and it was one of the most memorable meals in all of my journeys. The oysters were huge, plump, succulent offerings that melted in my mouth. Louisiana shrimp? Fuhgeddabahdit!

Beers: Restoration Ale; Golden Ale; Jockamo IPA; Amber Ale; Purple Haze; Turbodog; Andygator; Abita Light.

Select (seasonal) - 4 Grain; Wit.

Handpump. Belgian style Dubbel.

When I checked the Brew Pub out, I was a pleasantly surprized by it. I imagined it to be more of a "hole-in-the-wall" type place from times I've driven by. But, it's actually rather nice. The inside is laid out rather well, there are ample flatscreens within viewing distance of most everywhere you could sit. The service was average I'd say. Not bad at all, but nothing stellar that sets them apart from any other place. They offer everything that they brew at the pub, and there is usually at least 1 specialty brew that they don't bottle and offer exclusively there from what I can tell. As far as offerings that are not Abita, I don't know...all I ever drank there was Abita. The food was rather good. I haven't been enough times to sample everything, but what I have had has been very enjoyable. The menu offers a wide variety of things, some things I wouldn't expect, which is pretty cool. I think it's a tad pricey. I can go to a random bar that serves Abita and typically pay less. Foods a pretty decent value for what you get, so I guess it kinda evens itself out in the end.

I enjoy the place when I go, and continue to go, I will.

Had really high hopes and left disappointed.
Service was excellent. Was all over everything and first server on this trip where me and my girlfriend did not have to ask for a refill. Was ahead of us and asked for things before we need them.
Beer... Turbodog was ok and Andygator was disappointing for a bigger ABV. Was just very light. Bought an Abby Ale for later and was also disappointed.
Food was average. High point was the onion rings. Very nice.
Was very quiet for a lunch and did not seem busy at all.
honestly the brewery could do so much better and pales to the CO breweries

Headed to the Brew Pub one Friday night during the summer. Most of the business was inside because of the heat, but it still was not quite full. Pretty decent atmosphere; not really loud and noisy, but still social. Memorabilia strewn about: tin signs up on the walls, beer kettles in the corner, and taps all over the place. The bar tenders take their own time, and don't seem to be particularly knowledgeable in regard to the beers. All of the beers available at the time were available in the grocery store save for the Belgian Wit, the Belgian Dubbel, and the Andy Gator. I tried ordering the Dubbel and was told they didn't have it. Price was also a bit steep. $6.00 for an Andy Gator? No thanks. Food looked good, but was also very pricey. Overall not a bad place to go and have an Abita Brew, but one can really do that anywhere in SE Louisiana, and probably for cheaper.

My friend and I made a trip while he was visiting to the Abita brewery/brewpub. After driving to the brewery, and realizing the brewpub was in a COMPLETELY different location, we went there. The food was excellent, and it had all the Abita beers we had grown to love over the years. The only problem was the strange Hefeweizen that was on tap that was NOT Abita. However, the Hefe was excellent. I ordered a burger and he ordered a po-boy which were both of excellent quality and taste. It was a little bit expensive, but worth the trip.

Our experience at the brewery tour was amazing, although I could have wished for a longer tour. As we entered, we were greeted by a friendly staff who directed us to our "pour our own beer" bar! Definitely a unique experience! After a round, we took about a 5-10 minute tour of the brewery. Honestly this was the worst of the experience. Although, the guide, a brewer was informative, we thought it lased a bit too short. However, after the tour was over, we were invited back to the bar.

Overall, the brewpub was a little pricey, but free beer at the brewery was a balancing factor. I would definitely visit again!

Atmosphere - The Abita Brewery and the Abita Brew Pub are actually in two different locations, but are both close to each other in rural Abita Springs, LA. That's outside of Covington, LA. And that's a trip east out of Baton Rouge along I-12 and north out of New Orleans and Metairie over the Lake Pontchatrain Causeway. Needless to say, there is a rural southern atmosphere in Abita Springs, but it's not as if you'll need to drive far out into the country to get to the Brewery or the Brew Pub. The Brew Pub is actually located in the old Abita Brewery, where the beer was made before they moved to newer facilities. There is a lot of cypress worked into the façade, and there is a general wood and windows theme to the décor. The Brew Pub overlooks some hiking and biking trails, and is close to a railroad line. The Brew Pub is a restaurant that happens to serve Abita beer, and the Brewery is a brewery that happens to brew Abita beer. So if you're interested in Abita beer, you should head to Abita Springs.

Quality - The quality of the beer on tap at the Brew Pub is good, and at least they have the correct glassware for their own beers. You can even purchase glasses, t-shirts, other merchandise, and growlers to go, but I don't think that the growlers have any specific logos silk screened onto them similar to what Rogue does. The quality of the beer at the tasting stations on the tour in the brewery is also good, but you'd really hope that it would be. If not here, then where?

Service - The service in the Brew Pub is good for a little rustic restaurant, but it's probably not up to what you'd want your premier location bar for your own brewery to be. The serving staff does know most of what's available, and the food and beer are brought in a reasonable amount of time, but it seems like it can take longer than necessary for a building of its size. You'd hope that at least the bartenders, if not the waitresses too, would be knowledgeable about the inner workings of each of the Abita products offered in the Brew Pub. But, unfortunately, you'd have to go to the Brewery to learn that information.

Selection - The draft selection at the Brew Pub comes in at around a dozen brews on tap, mostly Abita brews with one or two guest beers (Rogue Dead Guy Ale was on tap when we last visited) that change from time to time. I don't remember if they offered bottles in the Brew Pub, but you could order growlers to go. What was most disappointing was that their own Abita Seasonal was not even available in their own Brew Pub (it should have been the Red Ale at the time). It was also a major disappointment that their own website lists Abita Blue, Chocolate Stout, Nitro Pale Ale, unfiltered Hefe-Weizen, and unfiltered Cask-Conditioned Brown Ale, and yet our server said that none of those beers had been offered for several years. All of the Abita products available on tap were readily available at most local grocery stores and in many local bars and restaurants. You can sample most of the current Abita options at the Brewery on the tour, but everything is served in plastic cups even if the style calls for something else. Why did we drive all the way out here, again?

Food - The food at the Brew Pub is good and seems to be prepared well, with American and Southeast Louisiana offerings available on the menu, but it is also rather pricey. In addition to that, Abita beer is not used in almost any dishes on the menu and there aren't any suggested beer pairings for the dishes on the menu. The Brewery doesn't offer food, which is to be expected.

Value - The food at the Brew Pub is a bit pricier than you would expect to pay for similar fare at other restaurants in the region. The beer is priced reasonably, but you'd hope that it would be a good deal since you had to drive all the way out here to try and buy the same things you could get in whatever location you're coming from. The tour of the Brewery is a good value at free, but it does not last long enough to justify a road trip out here on its own. All in all, it was something of a disappointment.

I have been to the brew pub twice and got vastly worse each time. A few years back, me and a few buddies took the brewery tour and got to sample the brewpub. Then they had all sorts of new beers on tap, things you could only get at the brew pub. Abita Blue, Abita Chocolate, and few other different ones were on tap. The second time I went back i was very disappointed. I checked out the website in advance (figuring it was up to date). We drove about 2 hours to get there to find out that they had the same stuff on tap as every bar in LA that carries Abita products. Also the food prices had increased astronomically. $18 for shrimp etouffe? I think not. If your desperate for something to do on a saturday, take the trip. Who knows maybe you'll be lucky enough to catch something on tap there that's new. In any case, I wouldn't waste the time or the gas as a local beer drinker.

I dropped in this past weekend for a few pints and to see the brewpub. It has been a while since I had been there and was expecting to see very few people and eat some average food with a good pint or two. Well, I was wrong. The place was very busy for a Sat. afternoon, but I still managed a barstool. The service was fairly quick, and with a smile. I ordered some food to go with a Christmas Ale (which was nice to have fresh). It was a step above the regular bar fare - definitely worth trying.

There were several Abita brews on tap. They have most of their usual lineup there, plus a Saison and a Barley Wine. The new IPA was available in bottles. They also had a guest tap which I thought was pretty cool (Dead Guy Ale).

Overall, I was impressed with the food, beer and service – definitely a good thing going in South Louisiana.

From the city its a long drive over the causeway, and I only ever go for one of two reasons: MKOB Homebrew club meeting to meet a few Northshore Brewers or pick up grains or yeast, but usually its after leaving the Abita Brewery with its unlimited free beer and I need somewhere to fill up on food for the long drive back. The burgers are really good and cheap and the meals are good as well and reasonably priced, I would recommend paying the extra buck for sweet potato fries. The beer selection is everything that Abita makes, if your lucky and theyre in transition they will have more than one select on tap, and that’s usually it. They make a few mixed beers with Andygator and Purple Haze or Turbodog, but nothing really that special. I remember having a Belgian wit there once but that was a long time ago and I’m not sure if it was someone else’s or if it was an old select they hadn’t finished off yet. The food is good and if you like Abita you can’t go wrong here. If you don’t, then I guess your SOL until you get back across the lake.

This place was great. It's out in the middle of nowhere Abita Springs, LA. The beer selection was okay but the food was great. I picked up a growler of Abita Andygator. My major problem with this place was I figured it would be attached to the brewery but it wasn't. The had an okay selection of Abita on tap but most of the stuff you can get on tap anywhere in New Orleans. The Andygator was the only thing which is tough to get in the city. I recommend people to come to this place when visiting New Orleans but go to the brewery first.

Had a total beer day the day I visited here. Started out with a tour of the Lazy Magnolia Brewery in Kiln, MS (Home of Brett Favre)with my brother and his girlfriend. Then we sampled a few of their beers at local restaurant. Had lunch at the Abita Brewpub in Abita Springs, La. I had the Andy Gator, Turbodog, Abita Select Pale Ale, and Fleur-de-lis Restoration Ale. All were good as was the food. I had a Gyro and my brother had a burger. Had Paulaner Hefeweizen on tap as a guest brew. Fairly knowledgeable and very friendly staff. Reasonably priced. Will go back. We then proceeded to a beer store in Hammond, LA called Red, White and Brew where we bought stuff you cant find in Mississippi.

I had been wanting to visit this place for a long time, so when my friend and I got the chance to finally go, we made the hour and a half trip to check the place out. Disappointment doesn't even begin to describe my feelings for this establishment.

First of all, we had visited their web site a few days before, which listed several different beers that you "could only get at the brewpub", including a chocolate stout and a blueberry-flavored brew. When we got there, the "brewpub's" beer list only consited of about 10 beers, and about half of those were conveniently "not available" or "seasonal". The chocolate and blueberry were nowhere to be found, and the waitress told us that they hadn't sold those particular beers for at least five years. They didn't even have the Strawberry Ale. What made me even angrier was the fact that we had passed up an entire stack of Abita Strawberry at a grocery store in St. Bernard Parish because for some reason we thought we would be able to find it at the place where it was actually brewed.

The food, however, was excellent, even though it was a little bit on the pricey side.

So we left the "brewpub" and went to the brewery, where they informed us that we could only buy the chocolate and blueberry at the brewpub. How ironic. Needless to say, I won't be going back to the town of Abita Springs any time soon.

This is a funky little place in the tiny town of Abita Springs, LA. The pub is very large with a loooong bar. There is all sorts of memoribilia on the walls from the town and the brewery, giving it a sort of small-town cafe feel.

They have every single Abita beer on tap as well as some brew-pub exclusives and one or two "guest beers". I was fortunate enough to sample the Dunkel Bock out of the beer engine and it was the best Abita beer I've ever had. The service is very friendly, informal, and accomodating. The food is a little pricy and quite frankly, I expected a little more out a muffelatta so close to New Orleans, but i didn't leave hungry.

Bottom line, if you're in Abita Springs, LA for some random reason, where the hell else are you gunna eat? Worth a pilgrimage? Not really.

Nice little brewpub in the small quaint town of Abita Springs, about a 50-60 minute drive from downtown New Orleans on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain. The directions from their website are good but it is still real easy to miss this place as it is on some little diagonal street that is only about 1/4 of a block long. I actually drove right past the place before I called and got set straight but the woman who helped me find the place was as nice as can be and she turned out to be the bartender when we arrived.

You walk up to the place and it has a little front yard with a few tables which look like a good enough place to hang out but unfortunately, it was a real cold Louisiana day when we were there so it was too cold to hang outside.

We went in and it has a rustic wooden lodge type feel to it. Actually, the place reminded me a lot of Vermont and I guess this is the woods of SE Louisiana and Vermont is kind of the woods throughout the whole state so I guess this analogy strangely enough makes sense.

The beers on that I can remember were the standard Abita offerings of Golden, Amber, Purple Haze, Turbodog and the Andygator one which I believe is a barleywine style. They also had a mocha porter, a copper ale and a 20th anniversary double pilsener which was described as hoppy and it was but it reminded me almost of a cross between a double pilsener and an IPA but leaning more towards the IPA. All the beers were slightly better than average or maybe a tad better than that and the freshness was excellent. Seems all beers taste better when you're right at the source if for freshness factor alone.

Food was nice--I got a fried shrimp po-boy and it was as good or better than many that I had back in New Orleans. The bartender was real nice and she let me sample all the beers even though only 4 or 5 were included in the standard sampler. Quite reasonable pricing. I would return to this place but it is not a must do if you're in New Orleans. I would go back but not every visit.. If I lived in the north shore area, I'd go here much more often.

Visited for lunch on 05/20. We were a party of 6 (my parents, brother, sister-in-law, my wife & me). My wife and I were visiting from Portland, OR -though we used to live in nearby Slidell, LA. First time back to Abita since the late-1990's.

Atmosphere: Laid back and comfortable, not really noisy but "lively". Surprisingly dark inside and nobody seated outdoors (despite sun and mid-80's). Big bar predominates the main room, we were seated at a round table in a side room. Decor is eccletic antique junk, posters, photos etc.

Quality: Beer was hit-or-miss. My wife got the 6 pc.sampler and only liked the Turbo Dog and the seasonal Red Ale. All the others were pretty average, (wife & I realize we may be jaded since living in Portland exposes us to so many great craft beers). I got an AndyGator (good but I've had better barleywines) and a special cask item, the Cream Ale (very good). Mom had a Purple Haze and Dad a Golden - both said they liked what they ordered.

Service: utterly rude at first. "Hostess" who sat us literally tossed the menus onto the table. Server seemed tired and acted very impatient when we didn't all know what to order when she came around. But once we'd ordered, beer and food came in an appropriate time. We also ordered an extra dinner to take on the plane home - it was nicely boxed up for us. Before leaving, bought a couple of 6-packs of TurboDog and 2 pint glasses. The man who waited on us was very friendly and helpful.

Selection (I assume this means beer): A nice group of about 8 Abita beers. The basics were all there: Golden, Amber, Purple Haze, Turbo Dog, Light(!) plus the Red Ale, Cream Ale and AndyGator. There was one "guest" beer, which I think was Guinness.

Food: We liked the menu, lots to choose from. Good sandwiches and burgers, good salad. My dish was the Pecan-crusted Catfish - a huge fillet with a delicious coating of pecans. Good sides of potatoes and vegetables, too. We liked it so much that we ordered another one to go!

A good place to visit - definitely stop in if you're in the NO area.

Very cool place. Friendly folks who know beer. Great atmosphere. Solid beer. Great food and a relaxing, but still hip and funky decor. The artwork (the walls are huge murals) was absolutely amazing, but the scenes are just of everyday life so I don’t think they get the credit they deserve. Whoever the artist was....frigging incredibly skilled person.

Abita's beers aren't the world's best by any means, but they are decent and some are pretty interesting, but the atmosphere is really cool and that adds to the experience.

Really enjoyed this place and the owner was a very sweet lady who was happy to chat and never stopped smiling.

This is a great place for brewers and people that love beer to come to LA and enjoy great food and great beer. You will leave this place full as a house if you want. I love it here. They have great beers on tap and a ton of great stuff to take w/ you. Order the real LA food and buy a real LA brew. It is the real deal, in that they have real LA food, such as etouffee, mudbugs, boudin, etc. They also have andigator, purple haze, their wheat beer and a dynamite christmas ale. Go here immediately. It is tucked away in the corner of LA and can be difficult to get to, especially now that the hurricane hit. Definitely go and drink a purple haze out of the tap.
