Madness & Civilization #3 | Hill Farmstead Brewery

Brewed by:
Hill Farmstead Brewery
Vermont, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial Stout
Alcohol by volume (ABV): not listed
Availability: Limited (brewed once)
Notes / Commercial Description:
Madness & Civilization is a panorama of our barrel aging program—oak-aged beers that emerge from their individual silences to find structure and voice as a unified composition. This is the result of an unpredictable state of permanent happenstance—a dialogue with our evolving approach to blending that challenges convention and circumstance. Each release will include multiple threads and is likely to approximate the style of an imperial stout.
Release #3 A single bourbon barrel blend of Damon and Everett aged for over 18 months.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.
Appearance - Black. Inky black. Thin collar. No head. The collar is a dark mocha, though.
Smell - Bourbon. Dark chocolate and coffee roasted malts. Bourbon gets more intense as it warms.
Taste - Bourbon is intense, but the stout comes through. Dark chocolate. Coffee. Nutty malts in the back. Oaky vanilla finish. Heavy roasted malt presence lingers into the finish.
Mouthfeel - Medium heavy. Medium low carbonation. Boozy.
Overall - I have no complaints. Really impressive.
