Style: Belgian Saison

Alcohol by volume (ABV): not listed

Notes / Commercial Description:
Flora is the wine barrel-aged version of Florence, our grandfather's sister, as well as the name of our wheat farmstead ale. In her honor, we fill French oak wine barrels with Florence and allow the beer to mature in the presence of our resident microflora. After extended aging, a beautifully complex beer emerges; Florence becomes Flora.

On occasion, though, some portion of Flora exceeds even our highest expectations; Flora Cuvée represents that singular moment, a true zenith of Flora.

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Sheer perfection. The only HF beer than touch B2 Ann. Carbonation is perfect and the wine really distinguishes itself upfront before the wheat comes through. Will be looking to obtain more.

I agree w Skrip on this one. Expectations were really high given my love of Ann, Art, and Flora (B5 esp). This was a fantastic saison and brought a nice pleasant and soft oaky funk. Endlessly drinkable w a mild approachable yet desirable mellow tartness but did not carry the wine barrel stick of Flora B5. Struck me more as a funkier B6. I can not imagine anyone being anything but thrilled with this beer. May just depend on your preferred level of wine presence developed through the ba time - and the distinction likely drives your place on the 4.5-5 range.

750 mL bottle. Clear golden body. Nice white head. Strong oak and funkiness in the nose. White wine. Grassy aroma, too. Taste is sweet white wine up front. Wheat behind it. Oak comes through in the back end. Light tartness and grassiness in the finish. Medium body. White wine always seems to make these saisons taste heavier. Medium low carbonation. It's very similar to Flora. Less tart and some more funky oak presence.

Bottle. Pretty, blue wax over the cap. 2012. It poured a hazy yellow with flickers of bubbles that pop away. My nose was very pleased by this beer's perfume. Tart, very funky and clearly influenced by barrel and barn. The base beer Florence is actually one of my least favorite beers from Hill Farmstead. I was relieved one I smelled it and realized it was now nothing like Florence. The nose was impressive but the flavor was downright staggering. Immediatley my tongue is covered in a tight tartness riding a yummy funk. Very rustic with a bit of yeast spice; the only time I noticed the base that is Florence. The wheat has become gloriously funky and tart from the years in the barrel. Speaking of the barrel; this was the most impressive part of the whole beer. Perhaps the most pronounced barrel character in a beer's finish ever. Once the tangy, tart, funky flavor slows down, the barrel becomes more noticeable. It just sits and sits on the palate for what could be minutes. A truly blissful flavor of aged, dry wood. Akin to the after effect of a shot of whiskey. Beautiful woodiness. The body was light and bubbly. This was easily one of the best beers I have had. Just a truly legendary beer. Can't believe I don't love the base beer but it tastes completely different. Will probably never have this again. What an experience.

Pours a beautiful straw gold with a pure white head that leaves nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is immensely complex and funky! Beautiful barnyard notes of leather, lemon grass, hay, and distinctly Hill Farmstead yeast! Notes of stone fruit and delicate citrus. There are also buttery and oaky wine notes. The complexity is overwhelming, and I'm afraid I don't have the vocabulary to describe it well enough, but this is the perfect aroma for a farmhouse ale.

The flavor follows the the nose incredibly well, with slightly tart lemon grass, hay, leather, oak, and delicate stone fruit and citrus. Wondrous complexity, with amazing tartness, oak character, and a mysteriously wonderful buttery flavor.

Goes down as smooth as any beer I've ever had! Medium body with very light carbonation/small bubbles. Dry and lightly tart on the finish.

Just superb! The best farmhouse ale I've had that hasn't been aged on fruit!
