Notes / Commercial Description:
Florence (1915-1967) was our grandfather’s sister, and Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to her and her 13 siblings. In her honor, this Belgian inspired Wheat ale is crafted from American malted barley, Organic Vermont wheat, European and American hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. Soft, cloudy, and fresh, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Florence. Florence becomes....Flora(Barrel aged Wheat Saison) is our Wheat Saison (Florence), brewed with Butterworks Farm Organic Vermont Winter Wheat, aged for 8 to 14 months in French Oak wine barrels and complimented by the terroir of our resident microflora... Becomes... Flora aged on blueberries, black currants and raspberries: A few barrels of Flora were selected, and that beer was aged further on a blend of fresh, hand-picked berries from Greensboro and East Hardwick.

375 mL bottle. Deep red. Looks like cranberry juice. Smells strongly of dark berries. A touch vegetal. Someone described it as gin, which is apt. Tastes of berries. Sour blueberry and blackberry, even though I know that's not one of the fruits. Light white wine. Low carbonation. That vegetal flavor comes through a lot as it warms.

had this one side by side with blue and black (which by the way is drinking awesome now...didn't love it fresh but now...wow), but I digress. this beer smokes the blue black. really nice combo of berries. very easy drinking fruited sour. I really loved this beer. so good as it warms and opens up.

375ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead taster.

A~ crazy amazing color! glowing pinkish purple with a tiny head and no lacing.

S~ blast of fruit straight to the brain! tons of fresh fruit but mostly black currant forward followed by amazing wine barrel funk.

T~ seriously incredible how you can pick out each individual fruit! raspberry's, black currant's, and blueberry's slam the pallet up front followed by a little zesty wheat, white wine barrel funk and little black pepper on the finish.

M~ extremely smooth, great carb and refreshing.

O~ this is up there with Flora Plum! the mix berry cocktail just puts it over the top! one thing though... try to keep the yeast in the bottle, this is one instance where the dregs just don't work. i heard some people saying they got slight band-aid/plastic off flavors and the yeast is the culprit! so just be careful! otherwise this is out of this world!

375ml bottle, dated 11/12/2015. Served in a Hill Farmstead stemmed glass.

Pours a dark, yet vibrant ruby red body, one finger white head with quite nice retention, dropping after some time into a medium collar that sticks around for quite a while. Not much lacing. Smells primarily of bright raspberry, black currant. Not so much the blueberry. A little bit of white wine, wheat, nice acetic tartness, even a little bit of fruit must and funk. Nice complexity, but most of all, jammy and tart on the level of a good Belgian framboise. Flavour is similarly fruity with a strong raspberry and black currant presence. More of the blueberry flavours come on the finish. Mild wheat germ, a touch of grain, oak, white wine dryness. The tartness is refreshingly dry without being overbearing like a lot of other AWAs can be. Very balanced fruit flavours and jaminness with tart dryness and a touch of funk. Very balanced, just about what I expected. This is a beer where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, lively carbonation without becoming too fizzy, hefty black currant and blueberry fruit flavours on the finish. Very tasty beer that is incredibly easy to appreciate, and has everything that you could ask for in a fruited wild ale.
