375 mL bottle. Gusher. Deep brown with a huge head. Aroma is banana and deep sugar. Belgian floral yeastiness. Taste is nutty malts. Sweet and brighter sugar flavor than the nose indicated. Sharp and slightly acidic yeastiness. Banana finish. High carbonation. Simple beer, but I must admit that it is really well made for an American brewery.

Highly carbonated is right...which leads to an almost offensively harsh and astringent mouthfeel. Gigantic (like fucking huge) tan head with a body that is hazy. Aroma is mild. Flavor actually isn't bad - it is enjoyable. But the over carbonation of insanity totally ruins this beer.

A- 375ml bottle split into two stemmed glasses with a deep brown, slight red at the edges, body and a massive foamy light tan cap. The head shoots up out of the glass like a space ship into orbit reaching a hand in height. Great retention and thick webs of lacing albeit not in high amounts.
S- Most reminiscent to a Dubbel for me with candi sugar complexity absolutely dominant in the aroma. Along with the notes of molasses, dark brown sugar, leather and burnt caramel come banana esters, figs, raisins and toasted nuts. At this point there is the slightest hint of something tart or Flanders but very much in the background. Some toasted oak hints.
T- In the beginning it follows the nose drinking very much like a rich Dubbel with added toasted maltiness and even a hint of roast grains and cocoa. Brown sugar, raisins, fig cookies, toasted nuts, molasses, toffee, spicy phenols and banana yeast influence. With time a tartness wants to build but ends up being more of a reminder that it exists slightly. Toasted wood and a hint of vanilla.
MF- Foamy and almost effervescent medium body overall. Takes on a slight creamy and frothy texture but the very high carbonation pushes that towards foamy. A touch slick.
The complex sugar flavors are world class but the overall experience feels just a bit like it is missing something. Rich toasty malts, insane candi sugar depth and a beer that seemingly wants to turn Flanders but only hints at it a touch.

First of all, this is not anywhere near an oud bruin, thatsthstdude is an idiot.
Big thanks to Francois
Big foamy fluffy head fades pretty quickly, no real lacing decent legs, dark murky chestnut brown color.
Nose brings a big Belgian dubbel like, sweet candy malts, candi sugar, brown sugar Molasses notes, dark fruits and candied raisin, fig, sweet brown malts, chewy fig malts, fruity esters, mild phenols.
Taste brings toasty brown malts, biscuity, with mild baking spices, candy toffee notes, toffee, with nice Belgian ester profile, hint of phenols, little banana and bubblegum, yeasty note, biscuity toffee candy, sweet Molasses, etc. Finish sticky sweet, toffee biscuit, candied raisin, toffee, etc.
Mouth is med bod, fluffy carb, little sticky.
Overall a nice beer but more of a Belgian dubbel than a brown.

After half the bottle exploded all over my friend's counter and sink, what remained was a muddy looking brown beer that reminded me of an infected homebrew that a novice homebrewer might give me a taste of. Thin, metallic, and weirdly tart, with about 3 times the amount of carbonation of an aged Orval.
A rare miss for Hill Farmstead. This one is particularly awful.

Actually quite enjoyed the taste and aroma, but the carbonation is out of control. Froth mouthfeel just kills it and makes it impossible to really enjoy.
