Notes: When our dear friend Gabe Fletcher from Anchorage Brewing Company visited us last September, we brewed two beers; this is the result of the second brewday.

Brewed with malted barley, organic oats, wheat and organic buckwheat, this beer was fermented in oak foudres, aged in wine barrels and dry-hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops.

Bottled 2016 opened from fridge temp on 6/20/2020

Pours a golden straw color. Nose is citrus, oak, wine, traditional HF tartness and funk. Taste follows, very well balanced - oak, wine, citrus, mild funk/barnyard, and lightly acidic, the oak lingers. Feel is effervescent. Overall, this was stellar for a beer brewed in 2015, and has sat in the bottle since Feb 2016.

Very white wine like. Lightly acidic, very fruity (stonefruit) with just a touch of the oak. Extremely drinkable and dry. Hops were there but not as pronounced. Just a hint of citrus on the nose and finish.

Poured from a bottle at Hill Farmstead in Greensboro Bend, VT.

This one pours a lightly hazed dull orange, with a small but persistent head, and a good bit of lacing.

This smells like lemon/lime, lychee, sour orange, wheat, and soft but sharp grassy funk.

The taste is very similar- it's got a really great funk to it- part grassy, with lemon rind and even a slight briney character. The dry hopping created another killer layer, as I get a lot of lemon and orange, a little bit of lime.

This is really drinkable and super soft, with a sparkling acidity and carbonation.

This is a wonderful saison from two brewers who really know how to make a great one.

Bottle opens with a pop. Pours a perfectly clear yellow with a huge fluffy white head. The nose is Brett and citrus, with the Brett playing the lead role. The taste is lemon, orange, white wine, oak and a light graininess. There's a touch of tartness to the end. Overall, a great brew and killer saison.

Bottled in February 2016.

Pours translucent pale gold with a fluffy khaki head that remains as wisps on top and leaves strands of lace. The smell is of mild funk with grass and citrus notes. The taste is of citrus, white wine and faint grassy accents. Moderately tart. Medium texture with medium carbonation.

750 ml bottle, served in a Hill Farmstead stemmed glass. Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow body, one finger white head, good retention, bits of lacing. Smells of white wine, oak, grainy cereal, lemon and a light bit of orange. Very nice aroma that is similar to a lot of saisons from Hill Farmstead. Flavour is bright citrus, lemon, white wine, light oak, very light saison funk. The white wine is more of a dryness here. Mouthfeel is medium-lighter body, easy to drink, refreshingly crisp and dry. Overall, a bright and solidly citrusy saison that is following in the tradition of the other Hill Farmstead saisons.

Dry and funky farmhouse with a citric balance from the hops. Big nose of fresh cut grass and hay from the Brett right away. A balance of lemon and orange zest. Flavors are preserved lemons, tangerine, green grape, oak, and grass. Quenchingly dry but not overtly dry.

750 mL bottle. Hazy pale yellow. Smells of white wine, lemon, oak, some pilsner malt, and a light citrus. Tastes of bright citrus. Tangerine for a brief moment and lemon takes over. Nice white wine flavor and a lingering oak. Citrus aftertaste. Light body. Bright and delicious.

Look: Pale, hazy straw body, quickly dissipating head

Smell: Lemony funk, earthy brett, and perhaps a bit of orange peel from the hops. Complex, but subdued.

Taste: Bright acidity. Lemon juice dominates with Hill Farmstead's classic well water minerality. Musty, lemony hay, orange zest, and the suggestion of chardonnay barrel come through on the finish. I didn't immediately pick out the barrel since the complex flavors here are so cohesive, but it's there in a tasteful way.

Feel: Perfect carbonation, zippy acidity, lemony tart finish.

Overall: This is a superb saison that's sure to please enthusiasts.

Bottle shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul.

Hazy yellow body with a half inch of soapy, bone white head. Aromas of well water, mineral funk, citrus, rain, wheat. Lovely flavor, following the aroma. Earthy mineral water with juicy citrus. Light puckering sensation in the finish. Very nice.

This tastes like a better version of Arthur.

Lemon tart on the palate with a bit of funk and some hop bitterness toward the end.

There is a nice sourness to this beer, capped off my a mild barrel presence. Very clean and dry on the finish.

Great flavor overall with a highly sessionable quality.

Pours a hazy yellow with a nice 1 inch head. Lots of lemon tart smell with the prominent wine barrels. Taste is just like it smells. It was tart with the oak and hops shining through on the finish. Nice dry finish. A wonderful beer from Hill Farmstead.

750ml bottle poured into a Hill Farmstead taster.

A~ light glowing yellow with a small head and a little lacing.

S~ tons of white wine barrel funk, lemon/lime, black pepper and earthy hops. all with more bretty funk on the back end.

T~ follows the nose for the most part with more citrus fruits here. along with lemon and lime theres a lot of orange and tangerine all flowing into awesome funk. slight zesty wheat mid pallet and some nice earthy hops on the back end.

M~ very dry but still refreshing. delicate with nice carb as well.

O~ this is just fantastic! i loved the first version of WoL with the apples but this one is just over the top and i think it'll age very nicely despite being dry-hopped. seems to be a pretty big batch so make sure you find one!!

This is classic hill farmstead flavors with robust Mandaerina dry hopping. Lightly sour, with great farmhouse aroma, the oak doesnt shine as much as id hoped, and overall this is dominated by the hops. Very good

Hazy yellow pour

Lemon, bread, and vinegar on the nose.

Taste follows, but heavier on the lemon sour parts. A little harsh, and some pleasant hop bitterness.

Full mouthfeel, a little papery, but everything balances out.

Great beer, it's unique but not jarring or weird.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a large stem goblet, 55 deg.
A - The quick snap of the cap yielded an immediate response, carbonation rising in a panic. Then calm, perfect.
The color, bright honeysuckle, lemon zest on a white plate, Carbonation is determined, the cap is arctic. The lacing is boastful in its presence.
S - Blood orange, lime, chalk, in a slurry. Then from center of the bale, straw mustiness, the vibrant carbonation pushes this well above the glass rim. You can find notes of fresh lemongrass 3' away as the glass sits in waiting. Chardonnay aged with a light touch.
T - Tangy, with sweet undertones of light grain treated well, tropical elements from the wonderful Madarina Bavaria hop, a bit of white wine, green grape skin and calcium, flavors run amok and then circle back. With a bit of warmth the wine character rises and dominates. Warm oak notes help to define.
M - Incredibly soft on the palate, tart start rolls the tongue edges, then a slow unfolding allows for the slightly sweet calling card to be placed. Ash, chalk, and lemon reduction coat the palate. This is rich, with a quiet presence.
O - The finest of displays, 2 friends/peers show what can be done. The offering is challenging, delicate, memorable.
Worth every effort to enjoy.
Cheers all
