375ml bottle poured into a unmarked taster at Hill Farmstead.

A~ black with a red wine like hue. no head, no lacing but a lot oil like substance coating the glass.

S~ dark burnt coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla up front followed by very viscous berries.

T~ follows the nose with a lot more red wine! more bourbon features here as well including oak and some caramel but the red wine shines!

M~ oily feel that stays with you, slight carb. definitely more than the first batch.

O~ just as good to me if not better than the first batch! glad i got to try this on-site

Black appearance with modest head that recedes quickly to a lasting mocha ring with limited lacing. Nose is undeniable bourbon and port, but the taste is definately port upfront and bourbon finish. Incredibly thick oil like mouthfeel. A true HF masterpiece, although what at HF isn't...

Unquestionably this is one of, if not the, best beers I've ever had. The only small issue I had with it was that there was very little head to it. Taste is like browner batter, with like booze behind it. Carb is low, but the taste is extremely complex with the character of both barrels asserting itself with other taking the entire experience.

On site bottle at the brewery with my dad on our ski trip. Thrilled to stumble upon this one. Very complex and smooth. The bourbon comes through so nicely.

This beer is incredible. Coming in close to 15%, it doesn't taste boozy at all. Very complex flavors and very well balanced. The port wine does a great job of blending well with the bourbon which is in the background of this beer. I would put this beer in my top 3 of all time!

375ml bottle, 2016 vintage, poured into a Hill Farmstead oversized wine glass. Enjoyed on 4.12.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a thick, black color, inky and oily, viscous, comes out like motor oil with a few bubbles of tan head, no retention and no lace. The aroma is really heavy on the barrel character, lots of oak, lots of charred wood, roasted grain, harsh bourbon, acidic port with dark chocolate and bit of vanilla character. The flavors meld a bit better, lots of hot alcohol hits first, bourbon barrel is more dominant, charred wood, mild bourbon, toffee and caramel with some underlying vinous character, a bit of acidity with lots of stone fruits, vanilla bean, brown sugar and dark chocolate with a bit of molasses. The mouthfeel is disappointing, thin, a bit watery, struggles to coat the tongue with a much lighter body than anticipated, on the medium side of the spectrum with a warm finish.

Verdict: A decent but disappointing beer from Hill Farmstead. The two barrels clash a lot more than they compliment each other and the thin body really hurts this beer. Too warm, too unbalanced, just kind of a mess.
