Notes / Commercial Description:
Our friend Jean Broillet IV of Tired Hands joined us last June at the brewery to brew two beers. The first was Karma Emulsion, and the second was a special Farmstead® ale with aromatic spicebush. Fermented and conditioned in our oak foudres, this was bottled in July of 2016 and allowed to evolve into a beautiful expression of our long friendship and shared vision.

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Bottle splitted 4 ways. Yellow/straw hazy liquid with a white head. Nose is a lot of citrus, lemon, funk and ginger. Taste is intense citrus tartness but quite enjoyable, lemon, with a long aftertaste, final of sour "rockets" dusty candies feeling, mineral. Our favorite of the tasting of Flora, Farmer Wave, WoL: Tired hands and CD19. So much love for this works of love, astonishing brew!

Bottle: Poured a clear pale yellow color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some oak and light herbal notes is quite enticing. Taste is also a nice mix of tart notes with some oak, subtle acidic notes with some herbal notes and floral undertones. Body is about average with some lively carbonation. Very delicate with just enough attenuation and balance.

Immense thanks, Dave.

A clear light yellow with a thin, off-white head with excellent retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is truly marvelous. Bright with a wonderful blend of lemony and lactic funk, a touch of frothy yogurt/ light buttermilk, a noticeable fruitiness with raw peach and mango, as well as a floral note, this is deep and beautfiully structured. As it warms up and breathes, layers of gin-like botanicals, with white pepper, juniper and orange peel are noticeable. The palate opens mildly tart and wonderfully structured with a blend of lactic and preserved lemon sourness, a nice blend of acid and a light tannin note. This is followed by the flavor of semi-ripe peaches and mangos, a little honey, a touch of jasmine and rose and juniper. The more i drink this, the more it brings to mind a more reserved version of Special Herbs - the botanical notes are present, though not as intense. Fabulous on the palate with layers of flavor, wonderfully structured and harmoniously integrated, this is a magnificent beer. Can't reccomend this enough.

OK so how does one rate this beer? It's listed as a saison, to me it's a sour.

This beer is beautiful but not if you're expecting to pour a farmhouse ale. It looks like a doppelbock and the nose is a cross between a saison and a sour. The appearance of this beer completely throws me.

I get a barely existent head of foam on an aggressive pour. Carbonation is excellent but not overpowering.

I find it impossible not to notice the vinegary sour taste on the front of the palate. I'm not sure how this happens but there is still a pronounced farmhouse funk both middle and back palate. Aftertaste is very pleasant. No desire whatsoever to make it go away. Definitely a family resemblance to standard bearers like Arthur and Anna, but I cannot get away from the ever-present sourness. This is not a negative thing.

Very happy to have giving this one a shot. If you can find one of these laying around somewhere you should give it a whirl. ABV is not indicated and is not easy to estimate. I would say somewhere short of 6%?

Nice.

750 mL bottle. Hazy pale yellow. Smells of lemon, an earthy and herbal aroma backed up by white wine. Tastes very lemony. It's very sour. Mineral flavor. Some white wine. Again it has an earthy flavor. Reminds me of sumac. Medium light. Aggressive, but tasty.
