Notes: Anna Valiquette Hill (1902-1993) was our grandfather’s sister, whose memory we honor with her namesake Farmstead ale crafted with Vermont wildflower honey.

We aged a small portion of the beer atop raspberry and blueberry pomace from the 2018 harvest season for nearly 3 months. The result highlights the essence of each fruit within the iconic canvas of Anna®—a variant worthy of her graceful, distinctive middle name.

Pleasant and tart, refreshing and almost like a wine as much as a beer. Elegant raspberry.

500ml bottle, 2019 release, poured into an etched Hill Farmstead RONA wine glass. Enjoyed on 01.19.2020, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a medium amber color, copper hues with a slight cloudiness but generally good clarity with barely a finger of head with little to no retention nor lacing. The aroma is very good, distinctive yet delicate blueberry and raspberry jump out, strong mineral water, pale dough with a wonderful floral bouquet that brings forth raw honey and a touch of citrus. The flavors are exceptional, tart raspberry, earthy blueberry flesh, berry seeds, raw honey, a touch of grape and wine like acidity with some lemon zest and a great floral character that sits on a nice base of pale dough and mineral water. The mouthfeel is great, coating medium body, lightly tart with a crisp and lively body but a smooth and creamy finish.

Verdict: A really excellent fruited version of Anna. The base of Anna and the delightful honey and floral qualities still shine through but the fruit additions just increase the complexities and delicate nature of the flavors. A really superb beer.
