Notes: As is our tradition, every fourth batch of Civil Disobedience falls on the darker end of the spectrum, and this one is no different. Blended and packaged in June 2018, this batch is highlighted by Edith (our dark Farmstead® ale), which was aged for more than a year in port barrels that once held Prolegomena, as well as a single barrel of Phenomenology of Spirit aged in a Bourbon barrel for nearly a year that previously held our Bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup.

375 mL bottle. Pours deep brown. Smells of dark fruits, toasted malts, red wine, and dark fruits. Tastes of strong red wine, toasted malt, coffee. Hefty sour red wine flavor. Medium body. I get a lot of dark fruit sourness and red wine, but not the bourbon or maple syrup mentioned. It's pretty sour at this point.

This one pours a very dark brown/lightly dark black color, with a tight white head, and not much lacing.

This is elegant and very complex on the nose - I get bittersweet chocolate, heavily fermented grapes, leathery port, bittersweet maple, lemon zest, grassy funk, red wine, and some herbal bitterness.

This is the best dark version of Civil Disobedience yet - they go dark every 4 entries. The barrel combination leads to a supremely complex offering. You get sour grapes and port, along with maple sweetness, and a killer chocolatey and roasty malt backbone. There's also tannic red wine, along with a spice and herbal bitterness.

This has an intriguing and inviting creaminess to it, with a good drinkability, and a mild acidity.

I can imagine that this will continue to age extremely gracefully. It's quite impressive out of the gate.
