Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children. In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, with impressions of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Edward.

85 IBU

Pale and Caramel malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; House Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Poured the color of grapefruit juice. Golden hazy and with a slight orange blush on it. Fat creamy head of white foam that lasted well and left lace. This beer smells floral and fruity. Lovely light citrus, pineapple and mango for intense sweetness. Earthy pine that is not heavy and does not stand out past the other scents. The malt on this nose is a light sweet perfume. So wonderful how all Hill's beer has this quality of lightness both in the nose and in the drink. I think if I had to summarize Hill's trademark as a brewer I would do it like this - He is trying to put the hops in the beer and leave them on the vine at the same time. He has a way with hops and in this beer they are so fruity and yet so light on the palate. That's his other trademark, the light malt that is so light it's like the beer wants to just float out of the glass. Crisp, light sweetness like a floral nectar, a bit of light sweet cracker that has exactly the perfect balance. The beer has a resonance rather than an aftertaste and it's light floral and fruitiness. As the beer warms some sweet grass and pine comes forward and this is just a lovely beer.

On tap at Reservoir in Waterbury VT.
Very thin brief head.
Not much on aroma.
Taste is refined and exquisite. Mouthfeel exceptional. So soft and balanced. So very drinkable.
An expertly-crafted pale ale in a time of very few pale ales!

Pours a dark shade of gold with a medium thick head. Superb lacing. Nose is just citrus, sweet and soft. Taste is very good, nice cintrus and malt balance with good bitterness.

Pours a beautiful bright amber leaning towards orange with a frothy cream colored head that hangs around and leaves trails of lace.

Slightly herbal, slightly floral, and slightly tropical fruit notes in the nose.

Taste follows nose with nice balance and complexity.

Appearance: Arrives a cloudy goldenstraw with a two finger head; good retention with clumpy lacing

Smell: Apricot and peach, complemented by citrus tones of lemon and orange

Taste: Apricot and peach flavors forward with the citrus building; somewhat resinous and a touch grassy through the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Hard to know what is a APA these days but if that's what they want to call it, I am on board
