Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children. In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, with impressions of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Edward.

85 IBU

Pale and Caramel malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; House Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Draft at Mad Taco in Waitsfield. Review from 10/8/14.

Pours an orange amber color. Very hazy with a creamy white head and good lacing.
Smells delicious! Very juicy with lots of tangerine, grapefruit and tropical fruit.
Flavor follows the nose with an amazing citrus profile that gives way to just a touch of malt sweetness with a nice crisp bitterness on the finish. Really nicely balanced.
Medium body with moderate carbonation. Lots of resinous hop oils contribute to a dry finish that demands the next sip!

Overall, this is a fantastic beer. Exceptional balance and great hop flavor. I was very sad to see the last of it in my glass.

Poured from a brewery-filled growler into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, caramelized malts and grassy hops.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of citrus and caramel. Then a strong but not over-powering hops presence comes in. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings an excellent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Very tasty, goes down quite easily, not too filling, mild kick, excellent representation of style, this is a great beer to pound down for a very long time.

Split with Goblinmunkey7 , growler filled about 4 hours ago

A: Burnt orange to medium amber with some honey and golden highlights - pours with a big, white head, keeps a wispy cap, leaves some nice streaks of lacing

S: Excellently balanced citrus, pine, and pale malts - not particularly intense, but intensely balanced - fresh, ripe orange, tangerine, and grapefruit - fleshy and floral citrus - pine needles with a hint or resin and dank notes - clean, pale malts with a touch of caramel

T: Balanced, clean, stupidly drinkable - nice level of citrus, with some orange, tangerine, and ruby red grapefruit flavors - very floral - pine, with some resin, some hints of mint - pale malts, with a touch of caramel - grainy bread - medium level of bitterness- extremely clean and drinkable

M: On the light side of medium, nicely carbonated, smooth, finishes somewhat dry

O: Superior to Robert Pattinson

Hill Farmstead makes absurdly clean beers. That being said, this is one of the cleanest, which really shines in an American Pale Ale. Worth the drive.
