Notes / Commercial Description:
Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children. In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, with impressions of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Edward.

85 IBU

Pale and Caramel malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; House Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

From a growler fill at the brewery served the next day, pours a hazy golden with just a small head (slow pour from 750ml growler). The smell is grapefruit orange and pineapple, and the taste replicates the smells. It is smooth, refreshing with a slight bitterness on the back end. The mouthfeel was unexpectedly smooth yet had some body and reminded me a little of the tannins in a good dry red wine. Overall, my first pilgrimage to Hill Farmstead Brewery did not disappoint, and this pale ale is the best I have tasted to date.

Growler from Brewery: This one pours a hazy golden color. There was a bit of an off white head on it that leaves some lacing. The nose is good. Citrus, pine, some grassiness, spiciness and maybe a hint of pineapple. The taste is very good. Just a bit of bitterness. Pine, pineapple, citrus, faint spices. Subtle but a lot going on in there. Definitely a very good brew.

Edward was the first Hill Farmstead beer I ever had. Because it's so well crafted and is not overwhelmingly hoppy, it's a great beer to introduce people to craft beer.

It pours a light gold color with an off white head. Nice carbonation. Aroma is nice, but not in your face. Smells of citrus with some grassy and some pine in there as well. Taste is very smooth with great citrus pine hop character. Mouthfeel is medium. This is a solid brew. Not the type of brew that's going to knock your socks off or fatigue your palate. This is the type of pale ale you will go back to again and again.
