Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.20%

Notes / Commercial Description:
Abner (1867-1953) is our great grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his fourteen children. In his honor, this Double IPA is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Abner’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and double dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, bursting with notes of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Abner.

170 Theoretical IBU

Pale and Caramel Malt; Dextrose; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

For me, Hill Farmstead beers are few and far between, and each is proceeded by massive notoriety and a reputation for excellence. This plays itself out in one predominant way - extremely high expectations due to the hype and the sheer number of excellent beers that I consume between sessions. I must've had dozens of great, outstanding and world class beers since my last HF beer. All that being said...this is fucking incredible.

Growler filled on 7/6, consumed on 7/7 - thanks, Brandon! Gorgeous beer; an absolute stunner. Hazy, golden-orange pour - not turbid or opaque. Frothy one-finger head. So aromatic. Tropical fruit, citrus and pith abound - guava, stone fruit, mango - and honey. Like a citrus and floral bouquet. Taste is right on point and achieves a perfect imbalanced-balance of hop, hops, hops and malt. What should be an overwhelming hop-forward character that veers towards pungent and acidic doesn't cross the line. Tangerine, peach, mango, light pine on the backend with that sublime malt resting underneath it all. Pillow soft, incredibly smooth. The mouthfeel is unreal - like beer's very own version of lotion. Soft and soothing on the palate. Kiss of honey at the end brings a level of brightness. ABV nowhere to be found.

Had on tap at draft house in staten island. This was pure and simple magnificent. Maybe the best beer I have ever had....definitely the best Hill beer and I have had many of their best. The mouthfeel was wxceptional with tastes bouncing around and popping out as it coats your tongue with citrus, hops, a bit of creamyness and a bit of sweetness. Glorious!!!
