Another fine brew from HF. Had this on tap recently and enjoyed it. Very smooth with complex flavor. Light enough to have several yet tasty throughout. HF never disappoints.

Had on tap at Armsby Abbey, delivered to me in an Armsby Abbey snifter. Beer was bright orange and hazy with a fluffy white, pillowy head of about two fingers. Smell and taste of citrus zest bitterness. Mouthfeel was super smooth and delicate. If I had the opportunity to crush this all day, I probably would.

Drank on tap at Armsby Abbey, Worcester, MA
Served in a snifter

Gorgeous appearance. The cloudy, straw yellow liquid was topped by an inch tall, super tight and foamy, eggshell colored crown that deposited a blanket of sticky lacing in its wake. Both the head and the lacing lasted until after the beer was finished.

With the thick, fluffy crown fully intact, the aroma was quite muted initially. Crisp, powdery and dry. As the head settled, intense citrus notes came forth. Grapefruit dominated. Some tropical fruits appeared as well. Pineapple and mango were most noticeable.

The flavor profile was solid but definitely more dry and bitter than I am accustomed to for a Hill Farmstead beer. As in the nose, grapefruit dominated. Loads of orange peel as well. As the beer sat, a touch of tropical fruitiness came forth. Mango was detectible. The beer finished pithy and dry with punchy grapefruit rind-like notes.

The mouthfeel was creamy and smooth. Pillowy soft on the palate. A hair lighter than medium bodied for the style.

Citra Pale Ale looks and smells a lot like a typical Vermont-style IPA, but the flavor is definitely West Coast all the way. Although I really enjoyed this, Hill Farmstead makes a number of other beers in this style that are far better.
