On tap @ Lord Hobo (Cambridge, MA) on 2/3/12. 3 days fresh in the keg. Served in the always awesome HF branded Belgium stem glass.

Pours a hazed grapefruit color, with a thin head of bright-white forth. This stays bubbly and rich, flaring up to a strong ½ finger at times and leaving back robust spotty foam down the sides of the glass. The aroma is fresh, floral, and bright feeling, with grapefruit and pine the whole way through. Some herbal accents and a touch of tart lemon undercut the more assertive flavors a bit here in the nose, while light grainy malt sweetness softens out the edges a little.

Fresh zesty grapefruit zips the mouth, spreading a steady blend of pith and pine throughout the profile that hangs in a dry finish. A light herbal feel flow throughout and keep this smooth while sweet grains sit along the back, balancing this but otherwise being pretty undetectable, especially when compared to the fresh brightness of the hop flavors here. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a lively crispness that is made smoother by an oily creaminess that hangs on the edges. Alcohol is completely absent here and this overall might just have the perfect IPA feel to it, with a combination of smooth and crisp that just makes this unbelievably drinkable.

This might just be the most quenchable IPA that I’ve ever had. Crisp, bright, and dry, the hop flavors just POP here and the smoothness that this goes down with has to be tried to be believed. This hasn’t been on the last couple of times that we've visited the brewery, so I was psyched to get reacquainted with this one. It didn’t disappoint in any way.

Pours a decent fluffy 1/2 finger head that fades quite slowly with messy lacing, hazy murky peach orange color.

Nose is very nice, fresh hops galore, light musty resin, tropical fruit with hints of pineapple, guava, passion fruit, and even light grapefruit and citrus, with what seems like a decent bitterness, and some light sweet aromatic and reddish malts underneath. All hill ipas and pales have a great nose.

Taste brings more fresh hops, light resinous flavor but not much. Plenty of juicy fruits, tropical mostly, light musty passion fruit, guava, pineapple, tangerine, light clementine citrus, hint if orange zest, and nice light pink grapefruit. Decent fluffy malt underneath tries to add a sweet balance but mostly just helps to prop up the hops. It brings lots of juicy flavors and fluffy feel. Finish is fairly bitter, long tropical fruity hop finish, some musty resin lingers, and fairly dry and smooth.

Mouth is med bodied, light fluffy and smooth, decent carb for a growler.

Overall great again, not quite their best ipa, but still great, and thats a huge shoe to fill. Nice hops again as usual, some nice citra and such, simcoe?, and a decent malty base that doesn't do too much and adds a nice base, as well as light abv and good drinkabilty.

On tap poured into a wine glass.

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with a small bright white head. Nose is fantastic on this, it's fresh, light and citrusy with some mango sweetness as well, fantastic.

Taste is solid, but off the bat it's a bit grainy (reminds me of shut the hell up from The Alchemist). However, the Columbus hops bak it up nicely. The makeovers is a bit low so the hops shine through very well. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, a bit of sharp carbonation but it's still pretty smooth.

Pint glass at Three Penny Taproom in Montpelier, VT on Monday 9/28. Pours a super cloudy straw/gold color with a fluffy white head that leaves good lacing. Nice west coast aroma on this, more citrus-y and resin than what I would expect from HF. Great IPA flavor, nice bready malts first give it a sweet backbone. Middle is all hops, a bit more citrusy than what the aroma alluded to. End is the hop oils and resin with a lingering bitterness, not overpowering. Great light body and easy to drink, just enough carbonation to refresh the palate. Could easily have 2 or 3 of these in one lunch. Overall a fantastic IPA utilizing these Columbus hops.
