HILL FARMSTEAD HARLAN IPA 9/28/15

Acquired a 750 ml fill at the brewery 9/18.

Poured from the 25.4 oz. growler into a Hill Farmstead stemmed tulip.

a: Translucent orange with a finger and a half thick white head which receded to thin even surface foam and extensive patchy/spotty lacing.

s; moderate citrus/pine resin.

t; Follows the nose with more emphasis on pine over a medium bready malt base, followed by a good strong hop bite which lingers at the sides of the tongue.

m; Smooth "oily" medium, very good body and carbonation tingle.

o; Another winner from HF, higher end of hop power for an IPA, tasty and refreshing though a bit less citrusy than some. The slick mouthfeel is exceptional.

Got a 750 ml growler at HF a week or so ago MDIH just had it tonight. I try NOT to factor in just where I got it and try to review it as if it wa screwed some place else. Hard to do but I don't want the HF brewery to be an influence. So, based on those disclaimers this was a damned great IPA. HF didn't happen to have it in bottles the day I was there but if they had I would have bought a few.

Pours a hazy gold color, not too much head. Not an overpowering smell or abv. Very drinkable, not overly hoppy. Has a distinct tasty finish, you're going to want to wait a few extra seconds before that next sip. Definitely pick one up if you have the means, I'm having mine at the west side pony bar!

On tap at Blind Tiger Ale House 9/17/15. Cloudy yellow pour, tastes sweet, piney and slightly peppery with a very clean piney finish. Delicious and exceptionally drinkable.

On tap at RattleNHum in NYC: Pours cloudy piss yellow color with a small white head that faded and left excellent foamy lacing and rings as it went down.

Smells and tastes of lemon zest, graham cracker, grapefruit, fresh oily floral hop cones, orange peel, light spices, piney hops, buttery biscuit, toffee, coriander and a lot of citrus; flavor has a medium bitterness that's basically perfect. Well balanced and extremely easy to drink, this was as tasty as a fresh hopped IPA and as easy drinking as a session IPA. Mouthfeel was light, almost crisp and yet zesty, with average carbonation, a medium feel and body, yet above all was how easy and refreshing it was to drink. It was expensive for both glasses but worth it.

Pours a dull orange-gold with a hazy clarity and a loose white head that dissipates towards the edges. Nose expresses citrus, caramel and rind. Taste follows nose with the addition of some wheaty/grassy notes on a malty backbone. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a pleasant, even carbonation. A decent IPA but the balance isn't there for me. My first time trying this but I was told by others it might be an off batch. I'll have to revisit it in the future.
