Notes / Commercial Description:
Everett (1908-1939) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Porter is crafted from American malted barley, English and German roasted malts, American hops, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. Decadent in its depth, with a complex backbone of chocolate, coffee, and malty sweetness, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Everett.

Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

16.9 oz. bottled 2.8.17

Pours pitch black with a creamy tan brown foam head. Smells like licorice, baker's chocolate, tobacco, dark roast coffee, espresso, smoky roasted malts, raisins, dark dried fruits, dark caramel, molasses, charred brown sugar, with woody earthy herbal grassy pine. Tastes like licorice, dark baker's chocolate, tobacco leaf, smoky roasted malts, dark roast black coffee, espresso, raisins, dark dried fruits, dark caramel, molasses, charred brown sugar, with woody earthy herbal grassy pine. Feels medium-full bodied, creamy and smooth with moderate low carbonation. Overall a really great robust porter.

Appearance: pours a dark brown color with a 1" head that lingers around a while.

Smell: roastred tones with some chocolate and hints of coffee.

Taste: follows the nose as a big roasted malt profile leads off with some dark chocolate, coffee, and a moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp to start, smoother at the finish.

Overall: a wonderful beer loaded with well balanced flavors.

750 ML growler in trade, either day of or day after. Fresh either way. Poured into Lawson's tulip glass.

L: Beer pours completely dark with 2F light tan head with good retention, lots of lacing, and a cap and ring.

S: Roasty malt and barley goodness, giving off scents like coffee, unsweetened cocoa, and caramel. Tiny deduction for barely noticeable off-note that is mineral in character (likely the famous HF well water).

T: Lots of roasty goodness that generally follows the nose with slightly sweet coffee and unsweetened cocoa.

F: Medium bodied, light natural carbonation. Creamy goodness. Excellent construction and balance.

O: Best basic porter I've had. No big frills or added flavor, just solid goodness.

The beer was opaque and somewhat viscous on the pour. A very dark brown color with a thick and creamy tan head. The first whiff brought milk chocolate with a bit of roasted coffee, some roasty malt, and a tiny bit of char. The malt was slightly sweet and it gave the sensation of chocolate milk. The first thing I noticed on the drink was the incredible silky feel of this one. I mean this beer just flowed effortlessly across my palate. Not thin, not sweet, just right. Carbonation was lower than most ales which seemed perfect for a big porter. The taste was huge dark chocolate, some coffee, some toast, mild char, and a pleasing floral bitterness on the finish. A big, complex beer that approaches imperial stout territory. This beer was 7.2% but I never noticed it. I'm finding out that these HF beers certainly stand up to the hype!

On tap at Mule Bar in Winooski.

Pours a nice black color, or lack of color, with a fine brown head.

Loads of coffee on the nose, with a bit of toast and soy sauce.

Very soft flavor, chocolate and coffee dominate, with hints of toasted bread and salt in he back.

Unbelieveably thick and rich texture considering the ABV. Velvety goodness.

Porters are my least favorite style, but I had heard so many good things, I had to go for it, and very happy I did. Really rich and velvety, a pleasure to drink.
