Notes / Commercial Description:
Everett (1908-1939) was our grandfather’s brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Porter is crafted from American malted barley, English and German roasted malts, American hops, our ale yeast, and water from our well. It is unfiltered and naturally carbonated. Decadent in its depth, with a complex backbone of chocolate, coffee, and malty sweetness, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Everett.

Pale, Caramel, and Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Columbus hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Poured into a Dogfish traditional oversized snifter. Label says Bottled 04.06.16.

A- Pours a 99% opaque black color with a 1/2 inch light brown head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Big roast in the nose brings notes of char, smoke and also some earthy hops. Also a bit of booze.

T- More smoke plus dark chocolate, char and a hint of vanilla sweetness. Somewhat bitter but very drinkable. Bitter roast aftertaste.

M- Soft and silky with medium carbonation and a full body.

O- Just as George, the brown ale, teeters on the brink of porter territory, this teeters on the brink of stout territory. The only thing keeping it from crossing the threshold is the feel as it's definitely not viscous enough to be classified as a stout. Also, the malt character, while certainly intense, does not make me think of a stout. Either way, this is some tasty stuff. I get a lot of smoke to the point that I'm surprised no smoked malt was used for this beer.

A: I get big roasted malt, sweet smelling beer. Not much else
T: sweet up front, big dark malt. Then some hop bitterness, but kept in check. It still finishes sweet.
F: light body and easy to drink
O: a good regular porter/stout. Not imperial, no adjuncts. A good beer.
