Notes / Commercial Description:
Twilight of the Idols is our winter porter. We brew Twilight each autumn, with a touch of locally roasted coffee and cinnamon, and age it on a blend of select vanilla beans. Originally conceived with a friend in 2009 while brewing in Denmark, the name of this annual release is inspired by the title of one of the last texts written by one of our philosophical idols, Friedrich Nietzsche.

500ml bottle poured into tulip 28/4/13 cheers Rutager for the bottle

A gushed upon opening but I managed to get it all in my glass with a massive mocha head that has great retention leaving a few chunks of lace, the liquids nearing black

S has some nice chocolate, vanilla, coffee and licorice, but an infections setting in with a little funk being noticeable, its not too bad but I doubt the funky notes are intentional

T anise and licorice are a little stronger and has a little spice I can't place, a little mint I didn't smell, chocolates not as dark and I want to love it but there's some bretty funk in the background that seems out as place

M a few extra bubbles and a little thin for the color, finish has a little char to it and still just a little funk

O even a bad bottles still decent? I'll need to read some reviews but I'm pretty sure what I'm drinking isn't what HF intended, even with a little funk there's still enough nice roasty notes to make it enjoyable

quite disappointing when you open a top 250 for the first time and it just isn't what you expect, I'm almost certain I got a bad bottle so please send me all you HF so I can do some quality control

500ml into snifter. About 3 months old

Pours black with huge foamy mocha head
lots of coffee and roast on the nose, but no sign of vanilla or cinnamon
more of the same on the palate - vanilla is completely AWOL. Ashy on the finish - too much black patent malt for my tastes
medium to lighter bodied given the ABV

Overall disappointing. When you tell me to expect vanilla, well... I expect some vanilla. nothing happening; not so much as a whiff.

Sinister black pour into my Lift Bridge snifter.

Quarter finger of khaki colored head. Fades quickly. Zero lacing. Outer ring remains around the glass.

Smell consists of coffee, roast chocolate and some oak tones that linger in the nostrils. Even a touch vinous.

Chocolate and coffee roast are at the forefront. The woodsy smell doesn't translate to taste. Slightly sweet on the finish of the sip. Slight boozy exhale. I am struggling to find the vanilla.

Creamy in the mouth. Carbonation is a touch under. Thin. Drinks fairly well.

Very solid beer. As far as a porter goes, one of the better ones. A great tick.

Growler that was one day old from the brewery. Pours jet black limited head with a mild coffee and cocoa smell but not too aggressive. Initial sip a bit thin with mostly unsweetened coffee notes and a slight metallic taste which as it warmed seemed to be from the vanilla. Was expecting more given the coffee and vanilla

Thanks to Sean

Pour was a deep black, cocoa head. Body looked pretty on queue for a porter.

Dark chocolate and espresso. Vibrant nose.

Flavor was very coffee forward, light chocate and strong roasted flavors. Vanilla and cinnamon were pretty muted.

Nice carbonation, full but easy body.

Overall, I was not that into this. Needed far more vanilla to balance the coffee.

550ml bottle poured into a Raleigh Beer Tasting snifter

A~ dark, pitch black. with minimal head.

S~ lots of dark malts, bitter dark chocolate, and figs with a little bit of coffee.

T~ pretty much follows the nose, more fresh coffe beans come out here. on the end theres a little vanilla bean as well. nice and dry with lots of sweetness.

M~ not too thick and not thin, really nice and smooth feel. dry on the finish.

O~ nice full flavor porter, definitely not my favorite porter but in my opinion its actually a nice mix of a stout and a porter. to me its still all about the pales/IPA's and saisons/wilds with HF!
