Bottled 5/2014.

A: Pours a deep dark cola brown with a thin cap of dark tan foam faded to a lasting collar.
S: Warming booze, toasted marshmallows, caramel and vanilla. Bourbon is volatile and solventy.
T: Follows the nose with tons of warm bourbon up front followed by toasted coconut, sweet bourbon, rich chocolate, and greasy caramel. I get tons of lingering chocolate in the aftertaste mixed with sweet bourbon. Chewy, greasy, and slick.
M: Thick body. Low carbonation, slick and greasy mouth with a heavy chew to it. Bourbon is warming but not hot.
O: I like the original better but this was excellent. Wasn't a huge fan of the nose at first, but the taste makes up for it.

I think I must have had a bad bottle, as it smelled a little off and definitely tasted somewhat sour and funky. It was also a little more carbonated than I had expected, all of which points toward infection. A real shame, as I was looking forward to enjoying this immensely...

L: From growler filled last week, great dark brown color, terrific head maybe 1" when poured into Hill farm tulip glass.

S: super aroma of roasted malt and chocolate

T: Wonderful mouth filling flavors

F: taste lingers in your mouth, coats the whole thing with lingering deliciousness!

Long drive, if you get lost, everyone knows them and is happy to give you directions, great scene when you're there, nice food truck out front. Be sure to check out The Museum of Every Day Life near by. What a hoot!

From February 2014. Either past its prime or beginning to show infection. Overly carbonated and syrupy.

There was an off, twangy taste to it. Can't imagine it was what was intended.

Bottled in February 2014. Super smooth drinkability. Tons of coconut and vanilla. Maybe a little bit of tobacco and oak. Amazingly balanced, long finish. Just an awesome beer.

Appearance: Pours fudge brown with a nice cap; a decent amount of lacing lingers and the head retains well

Smell: Roasted tones and chocolate, with a smoky/peaty edge

Taste: Chocolate and roasty flavors, up front, with developing smoky/peaty elements; the oak and vanilla develop in the mid-palate but the finish is rather harsh

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Normally, I like what Bourbon barrels bring to a beer but in this case I think I prefer the base beer
