George was our grandfather’s brother, and Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings.

George is our American Brown Ale. Hopped, rightfully so, with Centennial, Cascade, and a touch of Columbus…

Picked up a four pack of cans at Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vermont for eighteen dollars. My twenty seventh brew reviewed from these guys. Not my favorite style, but solid.

Had on tap. Brown mostly opaque body with a light brown head, almost to a second finger's worth, thick sheets of lacing. Smells of earthy and slightly piney hops in a bath of brown bread yeast, cocoa, and heavily toasted caramel and bread. Taste adds a hint of pipe tobacco. Feel is chewy, full yet frothy and medium weight

(shaker pint pour at Fountain Porter last night... review copied from notes)

HF George - lighter in color (than typical American Brown), great lacing... light fig and molasses accenting a brown bread-crusty base... little sweetness, but (a back end) roasty, acidic bitterness... bit of caramelized and herbal highlights reminiscent of a pale amaro... relatively light(-bodied) on the palate with a touch of roundness up front, but a drop finish and smoky tingle in the aft... quite a nice brown beer (12:30a, 19 Mar, Fountain Porter) (2517)

Pours a dark brown in color with a medium thick tan head. Nose is slightly sweet, slightly malty and slightly cocoa. Taste is also slightly sweet and slightly cocoa-like. Mild bitterness on palate

I understand that most people go for the IPAs, but don't sleep on this rich and roasty beer. Thick head that sticks to everything. More depth than 99% of the brown ales out there. Roasty, bready, with a little chocolate and coffee. Enjoying outside at the brewery on a breezy day, so I'm likely missing out on some of the nose, so I'm giving it a .25 boost there compared to what I'm getting in the glass.
My highest rated beer in this category. I imagine an imperial version would be amazing.

Half pour at Pizza Boy. Dark brown pour, silky off-white head, lacing. Light roasty aroma with notes of chocolate. Taste brings a nice light bitter, roasty bite, burnt toast, chocolate, coffee. Smooth, world class.
