The first in our series of experimental Imperial IPAs – Release #1 is brewed exclusively with Cascade hops (from Segal Ranch) and Weyermann Vienna Malt. Our friend, Jeff O’Neil (the artist formerly known as the head brewer at Ithaca Beer Company… now redesigning the Peekskill Brewery) lent us a hand on the very first and long brew day on our 15bbl brewhouse.

I had this on-tap at Lord Hobo. Poured into a goblet.
Cloudy like cider, amber, finger fluffy off white head, ring left on top of the pour 3
Grassy citrus hops, earthy, not sweet malt 4
Bitter hops, nice balance, citrus and grass, bit peppery 4.5
Medium body, aggressive carbonation, über dry finish 4.5
Great, really bitter , earthy, I would have again 4.5

Had this on 2018-06-11 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz can dated 2018-05-07 with a drink by date of 2018-06-18.
A - Hazy golden-orange with a 1-finger white head that sticks around leaving good lace.
S - Orange and pineapple flesh, gooey hop bud (fresh and moderately dank), grassy/vegetal, cracker.
T - Nice combination of fresh orange flesh and zest, crushed fresh hop buds, cracker/biscuit, touch of pine, earthy/dank spice. Alcohol sweetness and mild heat, which works nicely in this beer. Mild-moderately bitter, which doesn't linger too long. Nice.
M - Medium-full body and light-medium carbonation. Starts sweet and dries out nicely.
O - Quite enjoyable brew straddling the NEIPA (60%) and West Coast IPA (40%) styles with a clear emphasis on orange aroma and flavor. Good stuff.

Consumed 5/25/18
A: Tangerine gold - hazy, not turbid - pours from growler with a medium sized, slightly off-white head, fades to a wispy cap and retains a medium sized collar, leaves webs of lacing
S: Floral citrus for days - Cascade hops, in all their glory - orange and grapefruit flesh, zest, tons of floral notes - hop pellets and hop cones - some resinous notes, soft pine, slightly dank - hoppy, though not as hop-forward as many of the S&S beers - some pale malts, touch of grain
T: Easy drinking, insanely so for a DIPA - soft yet juicy citrus, with tangerine, orange, and grapefruit - citrus flesh, zest, and lots of floral citrus - leafy hops - soft pine notes, some resin, some notes of spice - some woodsy notes - pale malts, pale grain, finishes clean, absolutely no hints this is above 5% ABV
M: Medium body, medium carbonation, smooth, very clean, some lingering hops in the finish
O: Any series needs to start somewhere
The past Society & Solitude beers I have sampled have involved more modern, trendy (i.e., tropical fruit juice) hops. Cascade is legendary, but the idea of a DIPA hopped only with Cascade does not really make sense. Who else but Hill Farmstead could pull it off?

Cascade hops? Are you kidding me, how did they make a NEIPA this juicy with Cascade hops. Once again HF makes a diamond from coal.

Growler from the brewery. Not my favorite S&S, but still a remarkable double IPA. This is proof that you don't need hyped hops to make an incredible hoppy beer (you don't see many single hop Cascade beers on the ISO forum). Trademark Hill balance and softness. Pretty close to perfection.
