The series of experimental Double IPAs continues. This one is hopped with ample amounts of Columbus and is reminiscent of… an Imperial Harlan?

Consumed 6/25/16

A: Orange gold with some nice honey around the edges - lightly hazy, as any self-respecting DIPA from New England should be - pours with a large, foamy bright white head, fades to a wispy but mostly solid cap, leaves massive streaks of lacing

S: Super hoppy and super fruity, which is really impressive for a somewhat old-school varietal (Columbus) - citrus, with some orange and grapefruit - under-ripe peach - some pepper - herbal notes and some resinous, dank hops - pine trees, pine needles - nice malts at the base, with some caramel and bread, touch of sweetness

T: Columbus bomb, as expected - lots of citrus, mostly orange and grapefruit flesh, rind, and orange marmalade - herbal flavors and pine, pine sap, pine needles - earthy hops with some grass - oily citrus - moderate amount of bitterness - clean, yes, but with some lingering earth

M: Medium body, oily and super smooth, medium-low carbonation, finishes with lingering orange marmalade

O: An imperial Harlan indeed

The Society & Solitude series is consistently interesting. I suppose that is the point. #3 is a hop bomb, but it's not a juicy, tropical blast. It's amplified old-school hops. This iteration is definitely worth a try.

Fairly juicy with some hints of sweetness. Orange juice, orange peel, and some finishing dankness/ditchweed. The balance is in tact while the beer is cold. The finish adds some bitterness and a hint of alcohol closer to room temp.

The columbus hops are good. However given the yummyness that is some of the new hops have completely changed the game.
