Thanks to Tyler for this one. 22oz. growler into a Lawson's pint glass.

Pours a .5 finger white, creamy head with good retention. Beer is a cloudy, murky papaya and pale orange. Lacing is patchy and thick with great cling. Real pretty beer considering its unfiltered.

Nose is clean and simple. Grapefruit, hop resin, citrus sweetness, and a mellow grassiness. Moderately aromatic. Nice.

Opens citrus, pine, and cane sugar. Some papaya and other tropical fruits provide a nice malt backbone against a mellow hop bitterness. Finishes citrus and resin with a light sappy hop aftertaste. Really refreshing.

Light bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Slick, smooth and slightly lively in the mouth. Goes down quenching. Slightly messy finish with a moderately dry, sticky aftertaste. Awesome!

This is pretty in line with the rest of the HF pale ale offerings... namely incredibly balanced and drinkable. Really just a well crafted ipa in every sense that showcases each of the hop varities infused into it.

Had on tap in NYC. Pours cloudy straw. Good hop aroma for style. Although nothing but hops in the nose. A bit thin for a pale ale. Almost no malt to round out hop flavor and bitterness. Hop aroma and flavor are the highlights of this beer but that's about it.

A - Hazy orange body, short white head, and extensive lacing.

S - Huge orange and grapefruit nose, citrus hop esters galore, along with big pine complements. If juicy IPAs are your thing, this is exactly how you want your IPA to smell. As it warms, some of the Citra and Simcoe dankness comes forward, but it is never off-putting.

T - The nose, but more restrained, with a more subtle juice element pairing with definite resin and pine elements. The middle introduces the malt backbone. Most IPAs that deliver huge hop fronts close superbly bitter, but while there is a definite bitter turn, here it is more balanced, keeping the fruitiness and bright notes throughout. Which is one neat trick.

M - Very bright and carbonated. The close has some subtle drying, but nothing out of character for an IPA.

O - This straight ahead IPA is big and fun, delicious and bright. Susan is a top notch IPA, and it is a testament to the careful craft of this beer that it manages it all without falling for any of the major traps that trip up even the better brewers working with these hops and profiles.
