Mary was Edward's mother and our great-grandmother. A German-style pilsner brewed with our well water, American 2-row malt, our favorite German hops, classic German lager yeast.

Crystal clear, lightly golden pour and appearance in the glass; dense, slow-rising, small-bubble carbonation; thick head, white, creamy and rocky on the top; spidery webs of lacing. A most satisfying aroma; freshly baked bread crust and biscuit elements; soft, fruity esters, pear and honey dew melon. Clean taste; light malt base; very delicate hop bitterness; incredibly subtle and light fruit tones. Medium body; crisp.

Just enjoying the exquisite appearance is worth having this beer, but every other aspect is also a good reason to try some if the opportunity presents itself. This beer would easily be part of my normal beer rotation if it were readily available in Colorado Springs. Well-rounded and a pleasure to experience.

ABV: 4.8%; pouring temperature: 43.6 °F; canning info: 03/04/25

I had this on draft 5/12/26 @ the Hopleaf.

See-through pale yellow appearance.

Big white head; a thick curtain of tree-rung lacing remained.

Honeyed grain & faint sea salt notes in the nose.

Creamy, medium mouthfeel.

Honeyed grain flavors up front; pleasing sea salt dryness on the finish.

Simple, well-rounded & with a great mouthfeel. Excellent.

5/11/26 - (Hopleaf) (Chicago, Illinois) Bar Notes: $9 + tax shaker pint 16 oz pour, 4.8% ABV. An unfiltered & naturally carbonated German style Pilsner brewed with their well water, German Pilsner malt, German hops, & classic German lager yeast. Kegged 4/7/26.

Appearance: Clear golden pour, minimal white head and lacing leaves thin cover over the base and a bubbly ring around the rim. Light sustained carbonation, could have used a Pilsner glass. 4.0

Aroma: Salty cracker, traditional German malt, pepper and mineral water. Medium plus strength, higher enjoyment. 4.25

Taste: Consistent with aroma, add a lemon slice to the above. Cracker, pepper and salt consistent with the aroma. A little sweet, honeyesque tasting malt hitting the spot. 4.25

Mouthfeel: Faint gentle carbonation, drinks light and easy, wafer thin light body. Balanced, faintly dry, nice pepper cracker finish. 4.5

Overall: This is a solid German Pilsner, strong enjoyable flavors, nice balance and a light and easy nature you can enjoy all day, including this glorious Chicago bit cold and windy mid Spring day. Cheers to Hill Farmstead for finely reaching us! 4.25

Pours a clear rich straw yellow, 1.5" fluffy head with moderate retention but solid lacing. Nose has sourdough bread, rising dough, lemon, subtle earthy hop. Taste is very clean and balanced, but certainly leans more bitter and dry hop than it does grain, and that's just fine. Some minerality as well, and the finish is long and a little tannic. Feel is soft and full without feeling heavy. Very enjoyable and would go great with a pretzel or a sausage.

Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my pilsner glass. Date stamp is canned on 6/2024. Beer was given in part of a swap last fall and has been cellared since arrival.
The beer pours a clear bright golden color with a fluffy bleached white head foaming up almost 4 cm. I cant get the full can into my glass due to large foam. This foam fades slowly to a rocky pockmarked surface foam and leaves windowpane lattice as it fades. Several active streams of carbonation rise towards the surface of the glass.
Aroma on the beer is light and grainy with a bit of a cereal note and a bit of baked biscuit. Maybe a little grassy hop on the nose.
First sip reveals a light body with smooth texture and surprisingly very mild carbonation, honestly almost flat. Only the faintest, very fine bubbles. Didnt expect that. Drinks super easy on the physical traits.
Flavor is grain and biscuity malt with a little white grape note that comes through. the finish dries out quite a bit and some black tea hop notes carries through the end. Never any hint of the low abv on this very easy to drink and tasty beer.

Gifted to me from some awesome bar reg Vermonters, along with some Lawsons. A perfect Pilsner in my opinion. Out of the can to a nice beer glass, drinks perfectly effervescent, malty and hoppy. Wish I could stock my fridge with this, but here I am, in Virginia haha
