Flora - Satsuma MandarinFlora - Satsuma Mandarin
Notes: Farmstead wheat ale aged in oak barrels with satsuma mandarins. Flora is the wine barrel aged version of Florence (1915-1967), our grandfather’s sister as well as the name of our wheat farmhouse ale. In her honor, amidst the fleeting days of summer, we chose to fill French oak wine barrels with Florence and store it away. After many months, a Biere de Table emerged.

Served from a 375ml bottle into HF stemmed Tulip.

Pours a very clear gold with quick finger of bubbly white head that leaves no lacing. Smell is straight up funky brett and citrus. Some mild Tangerine and orange is present. Don't know about Mandarins though. Taste is beautiful. Definantly some Citrus, but I still get tangerine and orange. Barrel flavors are vanilla and oak with light grape and green apple notes. Quite sour. Mouthfeel is intensely carbonated and quite sour with a lingering dryness akin to a nice Champagne.

Overall an absolutely beautiful beer that reminds me of a Geueze. Should have drank this last October when I got it, but never the less, it's still pretty awesome.

Another one thanks to Ricky for sharing his bottle so I could cellar mine. 3-way split with rudzud.

Very light fizzy head, hazy golden pale yellow.

Nose is awesome, great stone fruit like, peach apricot, little citrus mild mandarin orange like, light Brett funk, juicy fruit, little tangy, hint pineapple like.

Taste its quite sour, little lemony, sour malt like, nice mild funk, little Brett like and bready, mild mild orange flavor, very floral fragrant and little acidic kick. Juicy with little citrusy kick as it goes. Finish is a bit sticky and syrupy, lingering lemon and mild orange citrus like with light Brett funk, little acidic too.

Mouth is med to lighter bod, decent carb and mild acidic bite.

Overall quite nice but not quite different from original flora.

The beer is clear and pale yellow with a soft white head. The aroma offers lemons, funk, oranges, tangerines, floral notes, oak, white wine. The flavor is beautifully balanced. What an elegant beer. Simply terrific. Sweet, fresh oranges complimented by delicate tartness and light funk. So smooth and easy to drink. A fantastic beer.

375 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Pale yellow with a slight haze. Small white head.

Smell - Lemony. White wine. Citrus. Mild citrus, but its there. A little acidic.

Taste - Lemony tartness. White white follows. Some oak. Minimal grain. Citrus takes over. It's not super strong, but it's enough to dominate the finish.

Mouthfeel - Light and crisp. Nice tartness. Medium carbonation.

Overall - The citrus masks some of Flora's complexity. Still a very tasty beer.

Bottle from the brewery.
Shared this at a recent tasting.

Yellow-gold color, slightly hazy, with a small, fizzy, white head that sank to a thin layer; very little lacing. Light citrus zest in the nose, delicate brett notes, fresh-cut grass, even some white grapes. Crisp taste of grass, light bretty funk, very mild tartness, quite floral, with a crescendo of clementine zest and creamsicle coming in about mid-palate, giving a slightly sweet finish. Nice! Some people didn't get any orange out of this, but I thought it was pretty obvious in the taste from mid-palate onward. Light-medium body, crisp and delicate mouthfeel, extremely drinkable. Another one I almost regret sharing, because I really wanted more time to let the full complexity sink in (aka I wanted the whole bottle for myself!). Oh well, what's done is done, and I'm glad more people could get to try it!
