Kölsch Style Ale famously originated in Cologne, Germany and is fermented with German ale yeast, yet finished with time to lager. Our Kölsch continues this tradition, true to style, crisp, and refreshing. Brewed with natural Vermont spring water, the resulting beer is a perfect balance of German malts, hops, and Vermont craftsmanship.

Pale yellow in color with a hazy complexion. There’s a fingernail of eggshell white around the rim and covering nearly all of the top. The aroma is of faint lime. I’m tasting faint grassy hops and lime. The mouth is light, cool, and refreshing.

This abomination is as far from being a Kölsch style ale as it can be. It looks and tastes like a Bud Light. Von Crapp brewers should be ashamed of themselves.
Awful. Avoid.

16 oz draft pour on tap at Frisco Taphouse in Gambrills, MD. Aroma and flavor feature crisp, smooth malt with light noble hops (floral). Great layers of flavor for such a simple beer. Soft, well-rounded mouthfeel. Overall this is a stellar style example. Highly recommended.

The pour is golden yellow with a fair amount of carbonation. The taste is biscuit, light lemon, & a light hop presence. Overall, I'm not a big fan of this style of beer but this was darn good. Cheers! B

Best By 02/18/24.
Appearance: Fairly clear, pale golden body with a medium-sized, white head.
Smell: Cracker dough and rather minerally with a smidgen of grape must and a rather modest, everso slightly spicy, floral hint.
Taste: More of that cracker dough with a staunch minerality and white grape, pear accent. Ultra faint cereal sweetness. Lightly floral, lightly spicy with small touch of bitterness. Remains winy and holds onto its unwavering minerally quality through the crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Moderate carbonation.
Overall: I quite enjoyed this one. I had a limited capacity to smuggle some Vermont beers back to Georgia last weekend and several cans of von Trapp Kolsch filled each and every slot.

The Zeifde Stange gets to host an almost clear, pale golden-yellow beer (SRM 3). It never quite went clear. The dense foam slowly retreats from 1.5” to eventually form a thick blanket and leaving a lattice of lace to whole way down. Lazy carbonation occasionally strolls upwards giving a wink as it passes by.
Herbal hops are front and center, with a light touch of white pepper closely behind. It’s a bit dusty, with grape skins thrown in for curiosity.
The flavor is packed with grain and farmers bread, holding it back from being truly crisp. Mild sweetness edges out the muted bitterness. But wait, the bitterness builds and before you know it, bitterness becomes prominent. The farmers bread stays true as grass and light lemon poke in for a visit. The finish is long, very mild, certainly dry. Warmth recognizes the minerals.
The recent focus on the Kölsch/Kolsch style has me recalibrating my notions of smoothness. von Trapp’s version has a medium body, with a course wooly texture. ABV seems a bit higher than expected from 5%. Carbonation is fizzy and the crispness is spot on.
My original plan was to sit out back and read with a few Kölsch within reach. Life, however, had other plans. A few hours later, I have finally stepped away from the computer and this beer is all the more rewarding, even if I’ve been forced inside to get away from the heat and humidity. Onwards fellow compatriots!

Lemon looking pour with a white 2 finger head. The head retention is decent, and there's a bit of lacing on the glass.
The nose is a light citrus aroma.
Taste - very complex for a kolsch. I get some lemon and citrus in here. There's a good deal of bread and biscuit. Then I also on the back get a pleasing hop finish, with a decent bitterness.
The body is lighter, but not watery at all.
While this isn't a traditional Kolsch, it is an interesting take on it, and delicious.

This was my first kolsch and I'm really kind of blown away. Tons of light and citrus fruit in the aroma and taste, balanced by pale malt characteristics and hop bitterness. Awesome summer beer.
