Notes: German for "bright", our Helles is an easy-drinking, yet surprisingly complex, golden lager.

Pours a pretty clear bright light golden color. Frothy white head dissipates steadily leaving no residual head or lacing.

Smell has notes of bright lemon citrusy hops and some floral notes. Light cracker malts are there but subdued. Very delicate yet bright aromas on this.

Taste has flavors of biscuit malts, a bright lemon and floral hop notes. There is a bitter metallic astringency on the back and and through the finish. Diminishes a bit as the beer warms, but its still very noticeable.

Feel is light, lacks much of any crispness - beer is just rather rounded - smooth but not in the way Id like from a lager like this.

Overall this was easily my least favorite of the von traps beers that I've had. The metallic astringent flavor was not good. IF that was gone, I'd probably enjoy this much more.

this is an absolutely flawless example of a helles lager, one of the prettiest beers i have ever seen in a glass, just stunning to look at. golden and radiant, crystal clear, delicate, bubbly, and with a peaky white permanent head like beaten egg whites. it is best from the tap at the brewery. there is a light but distinct malted barley aroma and flavor to this, honey notes to it, a little biscuit, dry though for the most part, and clean in the end, not so light as some of the other pils type malts, this has less of the bread crust taste and more of a refined cereal element, a really nice base for the lager yeast here, which is drying too, and has a fluffy fresh vibe, but is still very much old world and traditional. its a smooth and easy going beer, with just a slight balancing bittering hop to it. the mouthfeel is stupendous, with high high carbonation tickling the tongue and an almost creamy medium body. its a perfect beer to watch the sun go down on their beautiful patio up in stowe, and there really is no limit to how much of this i could drink and enjoy if left to my own devices. one of the best beers these guys make!

Quite honestly one of the best examples of a Helles I could possibly imagine, and this is directly after I got back from my bavarian beer pilgramidge. Pours a beautiful creamy white head with a beautiful display of surface tension towering over my bavarian style glass unleashing a very traditional helles aroma that absolutely nails it. Ovbiously this is not the most complex beer considering it is a helles, but in terms of what it is, it doesn't get any better in my humble opinion.

Congrats to VT and thanks: they have completely nailed this style. Better than other Helles' by Victory and other good crafters

Hazy gold color, clean aroma -- key here as always with P and Ls is balance -- the hops emerge bright but not overpowering against a mildly sweet malt background Still plays crisp though w/enough bitterness and carbonation. Easy drinking yet full flavored -- can drink many, many, many w/a smile throughout.

Pours a clear straw color with a huge bubbly white head. The head has pretty solid retention and leaves a ton of cobweb lacing as it dissipates.

The aroma brings tons of fresh dough and sweet cereal grains, followed by some subtle, spicy hops.

The taste follows the nose, with a bit more grass on the forefront. Freshly baked biscuits, cereal grains, and some spice follow not far behind. Clean and incredibly balanced.

The feel is medium-light bodied with pretty good carbonation. Crisp and refreshing, yet smooth. Slightly dry finish. Drinkable as hell.

Overall, an excellent lager that is extremely flavorful despite the low ABV. It's crisp, refreshing, and highly drinkable. I don't care that it's winter, I would drink this all year long.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Yellow with a thin white.

Smell: Grassy notes with citrus.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of bitter hops with earthy tones and grassy notes.

Overall: Good beer. I would have this one again.

From the slightly old bottle, it pours a golden color with a small head, quickly dissipating. I get mostly bread in the nose. The mouth enjoys the mild bread-like flavor with a slight bite of carbonation and hops. Yum!

Gold in color with excellent clarity. There's a fingernail of dishwater white around the rim. Moderate lacing. The aroma is of faint grassy hops and a light breadiness. I'm tasting a lightly bready flavor and a kiss of grassy hops. The mouth is light, crisp and refreshing.

Pilsner malt, some sweetness from caramel malt, a little bit of noble hop bitterness, and toasted, earthy malt flavors. It's good. Drank more like a traditional pilsner than classic helles to me.
