this is an absolutely flawless example of a helles lager, one of the prettiest beers i have ever seen in a glass, just stunning to look at. golden and radiant, crystal clear, delicate, bubbly, and with a peaky white permanent head like beaten egg whites. it is best from the tap at the brewery. there is a light but distinct malted barley aroma and flavor to this, honey notes to it, a little biscuit, dry though for the most part, and clean in the end, not so light as some of the other pils type malts, this has less of the bread crust taste and more of a refined cereal element, a really nice base for the lager yeast here, which is drying too, and has a fluffy fresh vibe, but is still very much old world and traditional. its a smooth and easy going beer, with just a slight balancing bittering hop to it. the mouthfeel is stupendous, with high high carbonation tickling the tongue and an almost creamy medium body. its a perfect beer to watch the sun go down on their beautiful patio up in stowe, and there really is no limit to how much of this i could drink and enjoy if left to my own devices. one of the best beers these guys make!

from a bottle to a pilsner tulip
look; light golden, clear, 1/8" tight white head that disappears quickly leaving a thin film
smell; yeast, honey, good, i didn't get much complexity on the nose
taste; honey, clean malt, touch of hops, yeast, hint of general fruitiness, dash of pepper, good lager
feel; smooth, pretty light, almost crisp, medium carbonation, but smooth
overall; a very enjoyable golden lager

A clear, bright gold color. Minimal white head that dissipated quickly.
Aroma of sweet malt and floral hops.
The taste followed the nose. Sweet and flowery.
Crisp.

This is my second Trapp beer tasted and I continue to be overwhelmed. I told my daughter to bring as much of this home from Vermont as she could and she was kind enought to do so. This beer comes in a big flippy bottle. This is as rich and luscious a Helles as I've ever had, which is plenty. A nice hazy gold in the glass; the bottle-poured head fluffed right up. Decent lacing followed the beer down all the way. Wonder-full malts with just the right hop balance create a great, smooth taste. The sweetness is in there but just enough. The conditioning is light which adds to the silky mouthfeel. This is a great beer!

On cask poured into a plastic pint glass.

Pours a very light yellow with a super light white head and a very thin head. Nose is light and hoppy and very nice. It's sweet and fruity.

Tate is phenomenal, it's light ad crisp and super hoppy. It's very drinkable ad smooth. One of the best helles i've ha in a long time!

Classic golden, shimmering and bubbly appearance. Nice white tower of foam.
The aroma and flavor are spot on stylewise, something the Von Trapp brewers do very well. No need for extra hops or higher avg. This lager is very traditional in every way. Herbal greens, light Spivey edge with sour wheat whiff.
Clean and light bodied, but full of malt flavors, garden greens, golden wheat and a nice, lager yeast sour funk thing, but all with excellent balance. Sharp and refreshing first hit with a peppery hop finish.
So easy to drink and never becomes boring or lazy....even to my pallet. This has been a favorite for well over a year.

Poured into a massive imperial pilsner glass, golden with a slight haze and a big foamy white head that has a decent retention. Smell is bready malts, sweet and somewhat sugary, some raw grains. Taste is sweet up front with a slightly bitter finish, sweet bread dough, pilsner malts, spicy hops. Medium bodied with a medium carbonation, clean finish. Helles is one of my favorite German styles and this does not disappoint. I think this is one of the best American takes on the style and I would gladly order this whenever I can. A very drinkable beer.

Had a pint at the Farm House in Burlington VT. Damn, it's hard to ask for much more from a helles. There's a crisp dry Brady malt character in the aroma with a little balance of spicy hops. There's mild lager fruit over the malt, but it's not sweet. Otherwise it's clean and super drinkable. Find this beer.

Imagine if what passes for lager tasted like this. Imagine.

A great looking beer. So smooth and easy to drink.

On tap at Worthy Burger. Served in a snifter.

Appearance - Mostly clear body with a nice white head. Excellent lacing without the best retention.

Smell - Meh. I think it's diacetyl. Not a crisp smell. Muddled pale malts and a slight hop aroma.

Taste - Mostly pale malt. Again muddled by what I think is diacetyl. Finishes a bit crisper. Slight hop bite.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Served warm which made it seem a bit sluggish to drink.

Overall - I was hoping for some VT magic in this, but it's just another mediocre American lager.

Crackery, peppery, grainy, green and, ultimately, a little raw. Mildly floral. Certainly has that Helles character that's at once rough and bright. A crisp, satisfying brew that's held together by some lemon-honey sweetness.
