On tap.

A - Black pour with a layer of creamy caramel colored foam.

S - Smokey chocolate malt. Period.

T - Beautiful chocolate malt base with just the right amount of smokiness, a subtle tle amount of citrus, and ends with a lingering bitter bite.

M - Medium body.

O - This beer is really well done to style, highly recommended.

12oz can into a pint glass. Best before 6/3/24.

Black body with some deep amber highlights. Big tan head head shrinks to a ring, leaving spidery lacing. Aroma is of roasted malt. Taste is strong, but very well balanced making it extremely drinkable. Roasty, malty, slightly dry in the finish. Another well crafted European style beer from Von Trapp. And their price point is outstanding, $12.95 for a 6 pack ofx12oz cans.

12oz can poured into a SA glass

A- Pours dark brown in color with a one-finger foamy and bubbly khaki head that has great retention

S- chocolaty roasted malt gives notes of bitter dark chocolate, caramel, light roast coffee and a hint of vanilla cream and char

T- bitter dark chocolate up front with roasted malt that gives light coffee, char and caramel. Mid-palate gives just a hint if fruity hops along with more chocolate. The finish is clean with a long linger of chocolate roast

M- light-medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a crisp finish, high drinkability

O- textbook for the style, full flavored yet remarkably drinkable, good stuff

Appearance: This one pours a very dark amber with about two fingers worth of head.

Aroma: Straight away the smokiness is front and center. Vanilla, roasted hop all through it. And the chocolate malt rounds it out.

Taste: From the first sip is quite a smooth mouth feel. Nice smokey flavor. Chocolate malt and roasted hop finish it out nicely.

Overall: Definitely a buy again. It's a treat to see a not often brewed style. Prost.

Appearance - dark mahogany body with tan head

Smell - roasted malts, roasted coffee bean

Taste - Chocolate, roasted malts, roasted coffee bean, hint of black licorice, slight caramel on the back end

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, medium carbonation, roasted/smokey feel upfront, chocolate, caramel on the back end

Overall - this is a nice take on the style, drinks crisp and refreshing yet has good flavors that come through. Worth a try for lovers of the style.

Price Point - $10.99/6 pk 12 oz cans

A: Poured from the can into a wide-rimmed V-shaped glass, like a squat and fat pilsner glass. Body is black with a light-brown wisp of head on top.

S: Modest roasty, grainy malt with a touch of char.

T: Follows the nose, with roasted grains, some straw, a touch of charcoal, chocolate, and some burnt grains and dark chocolate at the finish providing bitterness.

M: Could maybe use a little more "bite" of carbonation, but good overall. Call it light-to-medium in heft.

O: Quite good, another solid true-to-style lager from Von Trapp. Sometimes I want a nice "clean" lager, and their beers never seem to disappoint.

Draught. Good. Typical von trapp... tastes like a wannabe German. Not too different front the Dunkel. Pretty malty.

This is a winner. Body is a deep black with some ruby/brown translucency when held to the light. Lingering tan head. Carbonation evident. The nose has all those roasty, chocolatey notes that you wish for. Along with some discernible hops. The taste follows suit. Everything you want in a schwarz and more. But who are Von Trapp to disappoint. The mouthfeel is perfect. Overall, this is something to key an eye and an ear out for. It's that good.

Clear, dark brown, ruby highlighted body under a large tan head that left spotty lacing. Toasted malt aroma shared notes of coffee and caramel. Noble hops do a good job of balancing the roastiness and sweetness of the malts. Clean, dry, bittersweet mouthfeel. Nice lingering finish. Great example of the style.

A moderate pour released a finger of creamy beige foam with average retention and blotches of lacing. Very dark, almost black with reddish brown highlights. Bright red in front of flame.

A blend of roasted and toasted malt and grain greets the nose, faint floral hops and dark bread in the background.

Neutral taste with medium low bitterness-most of which comes from roasted malt. A little chocolate and just a hint of coffee, hop flavor is low yet balancing. The finish is fast and almost crisp, it becomes mildly bitter and semi dry. The aftertaste is a lasting blend of sweet malt and roasted malt and grain.

Medium light bodied in spite of the rich malt backbone, plenty of soft and lasting carbonation. Perfectly balanced and smooth to a fault. Alcohol is very well hidden.
