i love this place, nestled way up in the hills in stowe, and part of a much larger compound that includes a hotel and events center and a whole bunch of other fun stuff, sound of music related i think. you take a winding wooded dirt road up to the brewery, which actually is just a taproom now, there is a new brewery being built on the property, but there remains a bar in the bakery where the small old brewery used to occupy the basement. this is a wonderful place to have a beer, thats for sure. they had only four beers pouring while i was there, mostly their traditional german and austrian styles, but also a fantastic india pale lager. if you arent familiar with their beers, they are extremely high quality lagers, often very classic styles. the minimal selection is not a turn off, all four of these are summer session beers, and i was happy with the narrow selection. there is a great patio with astonishing panoramic views of the green mountains, and there is a large grassy area beneath it with lots of space and picnic tables to relax and sip. so mellow up here, hours go by like minutes. they had some nice looking food coming out too, but we only grabbed a chocolate chip cookie, which was awesome. overall this is one of the coolest spots in vermont, well worth the drive to get up there. we had an absolute blast here and will definitely be back!

Visited the Trapp Family Lodge between 12/23/14 & 12/24/14. The brewhouse itself is located below the deli and not at the lodge proper, at least for the interim until the expansion down the road is completed. Generally speaking, the deli is a decent place to grab a quick bite - menu consists of standard fare (e.g. wraps, salads, etc.), as well as some German cuisine (e.g brats, spaetzle, etc.), with some rotating specials. The deli (as well as the lodge proper) generally has the three standard drafts (helles, dunkel, and vienna lagers), as well as a seasonal (the Trosten Bier was being served at the time of my visit). The front space is comprised of glass cases and counters where pastries, coffee, souvenirs (e.g. glassware, hats, etc.) and pre-filled growlers can be purchased. The connecting rooms consist of a small seating area with approximately 8 tables and an adjacent bar space with approximately 12-16 stools and a wonderful scenic view of the surrounding area. The food was quite good for a what it was and the service was friendly and prompt. If you're in the area, it's worth a stop; however, I wouldn't call it a beer destination per se. However, it is quite nice to see traditional German lagers being brewed in VT.

Spectacular views, impeccable service, and well constructed lagers. The seasonals in particular are recommended - their schwarzbier was a lovely surprise. The structures are starting to show their age, but still hold a ton of charm. The taproom is newer than most facilities here, but is small.

Small little brewery in the basement of the complex's Deli/Bakery. Not in the Lodge itself, but down the road.

5 taps on, all house beers, all classic German styles. Got the flight- the Dunkel and the Helles won out. Didn't get any food, but it looked solid anyway- German classics, with the local flair Vermont is known for. Food didn't look super expensive, but the flight kind of was ($10 for 4 samplers of low ABV beer, hm)

Worth a stop for sure. They have bottles of everything available to take home, too. Couldn't tell if they did growler fills.
