Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Hopbursting is a relatively new brewing technique in which the vast majority of hops are added to the kettle late in the boil in order to achieve enhanced extraction of hop components (i.e. Hopbursting gives you tons of hop flavor and aroma!) Our Hopburst IPA has a substantial malt base, balanced with huge additions of our unique hop blend. This creates an incredibly flavorful beer, with smooth bitterness and hoppy goodness.

Definitely an interesting beer, in that the mouthfeel is its strongest card by far. Hazy pale straw, very bubbly with a thin head. Slightly rubbery and mossy, but otherwise crisp and clear on the nose. This beer tastes of, well, freshness I suppose. Some grapefruit crosses the palette, as well as some crabapple. Tastes surprisingly of alcohol, in spite of the relatively low (for a strong IPA) ABV. The beer hits the tongue with full force, immediately washing away into something thin and barely palette-coating. Very interesting sensory experience, for which I applaud the brewing team here.

a well made and tasty ipa, solidly constructed with a fuller grain body but not much malt sweetness, and a lot of dry hop type aromatics on this, juicy in that sense, not wildly unconventional or anything, but a good and fresh glass of ipa, enjoyed on tap. the color is quite pale for how much body this has, dry biscuity grain notes underneath an oily bright hop complexion, mosaic or something like it leading the way, but some fine grapefruit and orange aromas too, fruity without being cloying, leafy and green and fresh too. the flavor is like the nose, sort of a candied citrus peel taste to it, with really mild finishing bitterness, tame even by todays ipa standards, which i think lets the hops be smelled and tasted more than felt, no bite here but a lot of character all the way though. i have liked the beers ive had from these guys, i wish i had made it into their brewery when i was in town to check it out, buti guess you cant hit them all and thats what makes it exciting to go back! good ipa here.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a Shaker pint glass, there is no "best by" date that I can find.

APPEARANCE: pours a cloudy, copper color with more than one-finger off-white head, excellent retention, eventually settled to a thin, unbroken layer of small bubbles that persisted throughout, higher than average carbonation, significant lacing.

SMELL: caramel and bread with some pine and grapefruit, flowery.

TASTE: true to it's name, initially sweet caramel then there is a burst of fruity, grapefruit and pineapple citrus hops and some pine notes as well, the 7.2% ABV is well disguised.

PALATE: somewhat creamy, medium body.

OVERALL: this is a really good beer but I can only have one because it is so sweet and fruity, the tropical citrus IPA's seem to be all the rage right now, this is a good choice for anyone who likes the style.

L - a little foggy light Amber
S - grassy, hoppy
T - malt at first then some hops but not as much as I wanted
F - pretty refreshing
O - ok but with a name like Hopburst, I was really looking for a hop bomb...

Bottle:
Nice copper-gold clear beer, with significant white head. Head lasts well and provides some lacing.
Nose is pretty generic grassy to pithy bitterness over a lightly bread-grain smell.
Taste is similar to the nose, but with a slight note of citrus as well. Definitely on the bitter side, grassy to pithy, but a little thicker in feel than I like my IPAs.
I think this is quite an okay IPA, but the malt is present enough to make it lean a little towards a hoppy APA. The bitter dryness grows with each sip, though.
