Had this one at the bar in helena. One of my 3 pints allowed by law. strange. Hey, its a great scott!! Not hoppy, but sweet with a good caramel flavor. Delicious easy to drink scottish ale I would like to find this in california. Not bitter, not exactly english either but it has it's own unique flavor. I do like it.

Had this on tap at Montana Ale Works in Bozeman. They contract brew this at their facilities.

Beer is a hazy deep brown with tan head. Nice lacing

Smell is ok, but there is distinct smell of coffee that was left on the burner. Roasted, burnt malts are prevalent.

The taste is definitely heavy on the roasted malts. Very good. Nice level of bitterness and a slight alcohol burn at the end.

Nice and thick with a good, low level of carbonation. This one goes down fast. I could definitely belly up to the bar for a couple of these when things get cold up in Montana. The scottish and scotch styles are starting to become one of my favorites. This one definitely helped with my appreciation of the styles.

Sampled a pint fresh from the tap at the Tap Room.
Deep, dark copper color with thin floating cap of foam. Some smoke and roasted malt smell, very nice. Good flavor, mild, but nothing overly exciting. Not a lot of complexity. Mouthfeel was actually a bit thin, but still easy to drink. Higher alcohol content was well hidden behind the sweetness.
A solid beer, too bad more people don't know about this Montana Microbrewery.

Very smokey taste and aroma, with a sharp bite. If you like Scottish Ales, you will like this one. Compared with others in region, this Scottish is tops. Small distribution because brewery is so small, but great care taken with all of their brews. Tap room is packed most evenings, especially Thursday and Fridays -- good mixture of young and older patrons. Brewery under expansion, so I expect their beers will get more exposure. They don't intend to bottle -- only fresh draft craft-brewed beer, organic only. Stop in you won't be disappointed.

Had on tap at the brewery.

Appearance: Pours a dark caramel color with ruby highlights. About 1/2" of khaki head forms that has decent retention and lacing. 4

Smell: Very caramelly with some dark fruits in there as well, with a touch of peat.

Taste: Very similar to the smell. Lots of caramel notes, and the peatiness is more prevalent than on the palate that on the nose.

Mouthfeel/Overall: Between light and medium bodied, with a fair amount of carbonation. Very smooth. Overall, a good scottish ale. Very nice caramel malt flavors, with about the right amount of peat.
