This place is beer heaven! Great looking decor with the dark wooden floors, barrels to put your drink on, the coolest beer signs throughout the place, and 8 taps of hard to find beer.

The staff is knowledgeable and willing to answer questions. Not very talkative though.

They have a lot of beer for sale on the back wall with hard to find treasures there. They have a lot of cold bombers and 12 oz beers that you can dink there by yourself or split with someone next to you.

The only negative, kinda, is that they only have 8 taps. In a perfect world, more choices would make me happy.

The glass ware is top notch and the taps pour slow and easy, not to foam the shit out of your beer.

No expense was spared here and it shows!

A very nice place. Beer shop combined with a nice bar. A few coolers with cold beer and an entire wall with an extensive bottle selection in a pleasant and clean atmosphere. Nice cabinets displaying memorabilia from around the world. Unfortunately we are a spoiled in the Cincinnati area with good beer shops. I could not find anything I had not already seen at the places around here but I am glad I visited!

Love this place!
If you like world class beers then it's for you.
If you want something extra then don't bother
because that's all they have. Seriously, that's all!
I liked the relaxed intimate atmosphere. the only negative
was having to sit on an uncomfortable high chair which dug into
my legs.
Service was great. Except when I called ahead to check about the
parking situation & a gentleman wasn't very informative about
options other than a 'couple of spots out back'. Parking is a bit
problematic but we were able to get there & ended up discussing
future options with the general manager who was extremely
personable & helpful.
Limited drafts selection. The brew I intended to try after seeing
it listed their website was out but the barkeep suggested something similar
& it was awesome!
And their bottle selection is pretty incredible! I'll be going back!

This is my favorite place to go for beer and good company. The selection is outspend as are the rotating taps. Kevin, the resident Cicerone offers the best advice and reviews. Without him my rating would be lower. Oh....and also Beer School. Learn and try new beers with the guidance of the aforementioned Beer Genius Kevin.

I didn't get to visit long, but I loved this place. The vibe is just awesome, so much breweriana along the walls and it has a completely welcoming vibe. I finally got to meet BEERchitect, and his knowledge of beer is quite impressive. He runs a top notch bar, with plenty of interesting beers on tap. Also a great variety of bottles available for purchase. I'm not in Lexington very often, but I will certainly come here every time I am in the area.

Great vibe. Great selection. Their draught selection is small but constantly rotating. Just about perfect. My only complaint is not enough sitting space. I'm too old to stand around drinking anymore.

pretty much the gold standard for beer stores/bars - in very elite company at least of a few places nationwide on this caliber, bravo

The go-to craft beer establishment in the entire city of Lexington, KY, and arguably one of the two beer beer bars in the entire state (if not in the entire midwest). This store is a craft-beer geek's dream.

You walk in and the bar is ahead to your right, while the entire left wall of the store (from front to back) showcases all of the bottles available for purchase. I must say, it is a sight to behold. There are some seats in the form of a couple nice leather chairs with small end tables in the front part of the bar (think like an upscale coffee-shop kind of vibe), and there are some clever bourbon-barrel-come-tables arranged to the left of the bar for patrons to stand around and enjoy their drinks and fellowship. On weekends it can get a bit crowded at times, but it just depends on a number of factors including the night, the weather, and whether college is in session at UK (its just a couple blocks from campus). Each of the dozen or so times I've visited, the atmosphere has always been warm and the experience always a pleasure.

The selection available at The Beer Trappe is easily the best on offer in Lexington - both in bottles and on its constantly rotating tap list, and there is always something new or something rare/limited-release to be enjoyed. In fact, there is really only one place in the state that I can think of that has a better selection of rarities on their rotating taps, and that is Holy Grale in Louisville; but where Holy Grale has the larger number of selections on draft, its bottle list doesn't even begin to hold a candle to what The Beer Trappe has on offer. Given the selection of rarities and some less-widely-known beers from a number of European breweries (a lot of Belgian offerings in particular), prices can be a little bit higher, and on a couple of occasions I have found a few beers that were a dollar or so more at The Beer Trappe than right down the road at some other liquor/bottle shops. However, for the convenience, atmosphere, and for the ability to support a local business instead of a larger chain store, the price is but a small cost and more than worth it.

The staff is fantastic, and I was fortunate enough to meet the resident beer-guru (an active BA member) a couple of years back during one of my early visits. They really know their beer and were always keen to offer recommendations or their own insights on new beers, new styles, or their favorite breweries. But more important - at least in my mind - the staff are beer lovers in their own right and just happy to talk and share their love of craft beer with their customers.

If you find yourself in Lexington, you owe it to yourself to stop by for a beer or a couple of bottles to go. You won't be disappointed.

Easily the best non-brewery place to get a beer in Central Kentucky, not just Lexington. So many people from that part of the world owe this place everything. Without a spot like this, it would've have been very hard for me to start branching out and trying new and interesting beer styles. Beer is much easier to get your hands on these days, but spots like this will always have a place in a good beer drinkers heart.
