I wish that every community had a place like The Beer Trappe. Tuscaloosa, where I live, sure could use a place like this. The Beer Trappe is a beer retail store that also has 8 or 9 rotating taps. They rotate like crazy; the place was packed last night, and many of the beers switched over during the two hours I was there. The taplist from last night: Great Lakes Lake Eerie Monster, Great Lakes The Dopplerock, Dogfish Head Sah'tea, Goose Island Fluer, Kasteel Bruin, North Coast Old Rasputin & Scrimshaw Pilsner, and (the only clunker) Boulder Sweaty Betty. By the end of the night, kegs of Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, Schalfly AIPA, and Stone Double Dry Hopped IPA were tapped.

In addition to the constantly rotating taps, The Beer Trappe sells all kinds of bottles. They only weaknesses were saisons, sour/wild beer, and English/Scottish beer. Everything else was represented to the fullest extent that Kentucky distribution allows them to be. I thought about bringing home a growler of the on-tap Stone Double Dry Hopped IPA, but instead decided on bottles of Brooklyn Sorachi Ace and Dogfish Head Festina Peche.

The atmosphere would be very nice when the place isn't crowded. It's all wood planks and beer bottles and displays of glassware with some couches and numerous tables to sit your glasses on as you stand and talk. It was pretty damn noisy for my tastes, but nothing that I'm not used to.

If you are ever in the vicinity of the surprisingly cool city of Lexington, then you have to come to The Beer Trappe. It's small, delightful, and operated with care.

Love this place!
If you like world class beers then it's for you.
If you want something extra then don't bother
because that's all they have. Seriously, that's all!
I liked the relaxed intimate atmosphere. the only negative
was having to sit on an uncomfortable high chair which dug into
my legs.
Service was great. Except when I called ahead to check about the
parking situation & a gentleman wasn't very informative about
options other than a 'couple of spots out back'. Parking is a bit
problematic but we were able to get there & ended up discussing
future options with the general manager who was extremely
personable & helpful.
Limited drafts selection. The brew I intended to try after seeing
it listed their website was out but the barkeep suggested something similar
& it was awesome!
And their bottle selection is pretty incredible! I'll be going back!

This is my favorite place to go for beer and good company. The selection is outspend as are the rotating taps. Kevin, the resident Cicerone offers the best advice and reviews. Without him my rating would be lower. Oh....and also Beer School. Learn and try new beers with the guidance of the aforementioned Beer Genius Kevin.

I didn't get to visit long, but I loved this place. The vibe is just awesome, so much breweriana along the walls and it has a completely welcoming vibe. I finally got to meet BEERchitect, and his knowledge of beer is quite impressive. He runs a top notch bar, with plenty of interesting beers on tap. Also a great variety of bottles available for purchase. I'm not in Lexington very often, but I will certainly come here every time I am in the area.

Great vibe. Great selection. Their draught selection is small but constantly rotating. Just about perfect. My only complaint is not enough sitting space. I'm too old to stand around drinking anymore.

pretty much the gold standard for beer stores/bars - in very elite company at least of a few places nationwide on this caliber, bravo
