I stopped in here once or twice, already buzzed. I was in town on business and this place was visible from the hotel. Amazing selection, but not necessarily perfectly maintained brews - too many taps. The service, as I recall, was not great either, but it was a long time ago and late at night. I hope to get back to it some time.
A: Pretty boring and standard. What can I say? Its a taphouse in Bellevue, by the mall with, spoiled, undeserving brats coming out at night time mostly
Q: With 150+ taps I thought they would have a bunch of crap but the quality was good; however I had two beers that I had previously had before and there seemed to be a bit of funk smell on my Val Dieu Trippel and my Diamond Knot IIPA was a bit off. How do I know this? Well I finished a fresh 1/6 bbl of DK IIPA on my clean lines at home several months ago.

I go for the selection. They have a great selection of beers, many of them quality. That means that even though my luck mandates that at least one of my choices will always be out or unavailable, there's always a great second, third, or fourth choice.
I never like the crowded slightly-trendy scene, though, or the pounding music. The food's good though, and if you can get a quiet table with some friends (and somehow avoid a drunk programmer peddling La Chouffe), you can have a pretty good time.
Being my beloved's first trip to Coffeetown (and my first in a decade), we had a full agenda of tourist trap attractions to blow our hard-earned vacation dollars on. We walked from our B&B on the hill down Pike all the way to the market, where we didn't see anyone throw any fishes - must have been a slow day - then walked to the space needle. I scoffed at the price of the elevator ride, but the fiancé insisted. It turned out to be an advantageous move, considering that we wouldn't have spotted that fountain not too far from there. You see, my lady likes fountains, and spending a half-hour there gazing at some contraption that spurted water with accompanying music made me enough brownie points to last a couple of days at least. She outright told me, "Okay, we can do all the Beer places that you want now. Just find one quick, I'm hungry." So in two shakes of a monorail's tail we showed up here. Walking down the snazzy corridors of this modern building in a business sector, alarm bells were ringing in my head. Very upscale sports bar atmosphere, with a twisted bar, private salons, pool tables and an all around nouveau riche feeling. "Now this place I like" she said. "Why don't we go more often to places like this?" "Wait 'till we see the menu..." I answered. My hunch was right. Selection was pretty disappointing. Lots of "premium" lagers, usual suspect imports, and only a few local micros that could have been found elsewhere, for cheaper. But I was pleasantly surprised at the affordable lunch menu. My Guinness stew was around 10 bucks, was tasty filled me up right. Service was typical of chain brewpubs/sports bars, a fake smile but you got your orders fast, so no complaints. I didn't dislike my visit here, but frankly had I known I would have spent more quality time elsewhere.
I guess we were lucky. We had a wide selection of beers there and none were bad. Of course, we drank most of the local beers as we cannot get them here on the East Coast. Maybe they cycle faster. The food was good, though maybe a bit excessive for the beers. I was very surprised the first time we walked in. The ambiance was yuppie and, at first, I felt a little out of place, but I figured my money is just as good as theirs and I'm there to drink the beers. Our second visit was on Thursday night and a lot of the yuppie crowd was there swilling martinis. I even heard the one couple next to us leave because he couldn't get Bud Light! I guess if we were regulars, we might have a bad experience, but the 2 visits we made were enjoyable and rewarding.
After reading the reviews, I decided to take the risk rather then hit rock bottom or the sports bar. Bad move. I had 3 beers, they were basically all bad. DFH90 was first. A slight tang to it but otherwise it was fine, thanks to the huge flavor masking any off-tastes. I asked what was freshest and my server said they had just tapped it. So not stale, but maybe some dirty tap lines.
Next beer was a Bière Du Boucanier. The bartender saw it was flat so the server only brought me a sample. It was disgusting, sour and super tangy. Luckily no charge. I finally risked ordering the new Bud American Ale, man was it gross. Unlike the other two beers, I've never had this, but from the reviews I read, I don't think it's normally this bad!
Of course their selection is massive and I have to give them points for it. But Looking around I noticed over half of the lyounger yuppie crowd was drinking mix drinks, which obviously isn't helping their turnover. I assume none of it is particularly fresh or at least served cleanly.
Cool enough atmosphere for the wealthy hipster, very Bellevue. I sat at a table in the bar area, which was almost full on a week night around 8pm. My server was pretty attentive and friendly.
I got their bbq burger, it was pretty damn good. The bun was phenomenal, like it was baked fresh to order. Tab was still pretty high, for 3 beers (2 x 90 min + American Ale) and burger, a bit more then $30. Welcome to Bellevue, at least they validated parking.
I've gone here quite a few times and they have a great selection of beer on tap with additional rotating taps. However, the food here doesn't match the types of beers they offer. I know there are beers that go with sushi, but it isn't something I would think of right off the bat when thinking about beer. Also a Chicken Philly instead of a Steak Philly? Weird. The food just doesn't seem to match the 160 beers they have on tap.
I also think that the servers there need to have a better knowledge of beer. I ordered some HOTD Fred and the women just looked at me like I was from Mars. I had to show it to her on the menu. Her claim was she hasn't been there for two weeks. (But it was there for the last month.) Plus my wife ordered some Maudite and it tasted sour or skunked or something. She has had that beer there many times (its one of her favs.), and from the bottle and this one tasted off. We complained to the server, but she didn't get what I was talking about, and neither did the bartender, they both thought the beer was fine. For a place like that you would think the staff would have to be more beer educated if your going to have a claim da fame of 160 beers on tap
Stopped in here recently and I have to say about their beer selection, clean your lines!!!.
The issue I had with this place is that beer selection should be what drives someone to this place, yet I feel any first timer might assume that their Yeti is a bit milder than what it is in bottle or on a clean line. I inquired how they tend to service temperatures of their stronger ales versus their mild (sessions, light lagers, etc.). The answer I got was the same cooler and to top things off things off I felt like I was insulting the bartender by asking them to take a "bad" beer back.
Overall, given the options around the area, there isn't much, but I think I would rather head into Rock Bottom and have a locally brewed, than question whether its the line or my taste buds that are fried.
Hey guys, I am not sure where you are from but, in my book, any place with 160 beers on tap is going to have something that I like.
A great range of N.W. beers here. Classic European brews as well as some nice surprises ( Spaten Helles bock, Ayinger Celebrator).
Stale beers? Well. how about asking the server (you are in for a treat if it's Dana...) what is freshest. They know right? Modern-industrial with a shit load of taps. Always a proper pour glass. Yeah, they are next to a mall. You will be able to get over it.
The food is "creative pub style" with a limited sushi menu and is offered honestly.
During my visit to Seattle, I was taken here by my cousin and her husband because they know I enjoy beer. It's a 160 taps....can't go wrong, right? =P
Unlike previous reviews of Tap House, we didn't seem to have problems with freshness. But I'm sure if I was to go there enough times, the issue would present itself. The problem we had was the service. I knew beforehand that going on a Friday night would probably not be a great idea, but I was more of the "follower" this night. So sure enough the four of us get crammed onto a small table in an area that needed at least twice as many servers. We ended up being there for far too long for the amount of beer we ordered.
Maybe go here once just to see the taps...don't have fresh beer, a good atmosphere, and good service a high priority. Next time I'll remember to spend my time at more of the local brewpubs.
[EDIT] Let me state something up front. After writing and submitting this review, I read the reviews below of several Seattle-area BeerAdvocates, all of whom I respect and whose reviews on countless beers I have enjoyed and found useful. My experience here was not good, but they apparently had good experiences. I will not discredit their accounts of this restaurant. I am of the opinion that it is impossible to carry this many beers and not have them get stale. I wish you better luck than I had.
Atmosphere: The environs have modern décor with several oil paintings, light woods, exposed metals, and dark painted walls. It was not too loud and about 1/3 of the tables were occupied at noon on a Wednesday.
Quality: Its expensive, and not worth the expense for the beers that they have. $5.50 for all pints that are not on their list of 6 Belgians that they consider to be special. Heres the main problem with the quality. They have !!160!! beers on tap. Thats a problem folks think about it: 1) This place is in a mall. 2) Most people going here are not going to order a rare, good beer. 3) How much beer can they move through here in a month. THE BEERS ARE STALE! Go here and order a Dogfish Head Raison DEtre or something else that you a) know well and b) dont think most people would order and you will taste that the keg has been tapped for a frickin year and is not getting any more or better. I almost forgot to mention, the food was fine, and they cooked my burger the way I ordered it.
Service: Ok. Our server was polite and I was impressed she knew the 10 seasonals they have on tap without having to think about it. However, when I told her my first beer was totally lackluster, she didnt seem to give a rip. She didnt mind enough to take it off my tab. That said, if they didnt charge for stale beer, theyd be giving it all way for free.
Selection: There are 160 stale beers on tap here. If youre in the mood for a stale beer on tap, this place is hard to beat.
Summary: Please do yourself a favor and stay away from here. I read the bad reviews and still went due to the novelty of all their beers. If you want these 160 beers, go to the Whole Foods in Bellevue, WA and buy some fresh, and for less money.
Atmosphere: This place is in a converted office building or something like that. I don't think it was originally intended as a restaurant. It's not like a normal bar ambience it's very uppity, not down to earth at all. Too many pretensious yuppys and fat businessmen smoking cigars frequent this place. The parking is horrible and you have to pay, even with validation.
Quality: Prices are outrageously high--people who break kneecaps out for a living would charge less for a pint. Two of the beers I had tasted a little off, like they are stale--paying a high price for stale beer just pisses me off.
Service: Wait staff doesn't know jack about the beers. While you must take into consideration that it was a busy night, service was slow. I guess the service could have been worse but they would have had to spit in my beer. Also, they serve belgian styles in pint glasses! Thats sacreligous.
Selection: This place has many beers on tap, over 100, so you should be able to find something to drink.With that many taps, I'd expect unique and exotic beers. While they do have lots of beers, most of what they have is pretty common. There is more to having a great selection than lots of selections.
Summary: I really hate the taphouse--I would have given it more 1's but I'm being honest. Considering the price, I really should have given it 1's. There is a Rock Bottom right next door, although it is a mediocre place, it's a better pick than the taphouse--I went there next.
Atmosphere The atmosphere was very inviting here. The place is rather new, or nuevo as the case may be. You walk in and everything is open. The bar is on the right and is separated by a cool divider from the restaurant. Noise control is excellent.
Quality This is excellent as well. As I said, everything is new so it doesnt have that run down look. The bar is especially impressive. Its well lit with all 160 taps neatly organized.
Service They seem to have a high turnover rate with the staff, which means problems. It is not uncommon to have a waiter or waitress that knows absolutely nothing about the beer. For instance, Ive ordered a hefeweizen and gotten a dunkel . . . that kind of thing. Ive never actually had bad service there, though.
Selection This is a tricky one to rate. On the one hand, they have 160 beers on tap, which is very impressive. On the other hand, I can buy just about any one of them at the local grocery store. I found an Elysian on the list once that I had never even heard of, but when I ordered it they were out. They deserve a 5 for quantity of selection but only a 3 for quality of selection, so Im giving it a 4.
Food The eats are middle of the road. I had a killer spinach salad once, but other than that everything is pretty average. Their onion soup is good but so chunky theres not any liquid in it. The pork ribs are cooked very well the meat literally falls off the bone but the sauce is so-so. The ahi tuna is thick and rare. I like the hot spicing on them but Im thinking that it would be too much for most people.
Comments This is located at the Bellevue Galleria, which is a strange shopping center in the heart of Bellevue. Its like a vertical strip mall. The stores arent connected but there are three stories. If you go here and are not happy, theres a Rock Bottom Brewery next door and a Hooters two flights up. If they dont float your boat theres a CPK across the street.
Parking, BTW, is underground and will cost you a buck even with the validation. Also, at $4.50 a pint this is not a cheap date. The last time my wife and I came here I dropped $74 including the tip.
Ah, the Tap House Grill. Well for starters it's in Bellevue. And it's in some kind of weird mall like place called the Galleria which is unusual in that it has a parking garage and about four shops and if you get off on the wrong floor there's an art store with large paintings and a laquered rickshaw or goat cart.
But I digress. This place has a ton of taps, with an excellent representation of most of the standard pacific northwest microbrews, quality imports and belgians difficult to find elsewhere. The menu is interesting and the food of good quality, if pricier than usual for a beer spot. But jeepers, 4.50 a pint? I would also like to see some taps dedicated to the highly ranked breweries from around the country that one can't get anywhere else.
I commend the Tap House Grill for bringing together so many quality beers in one place. But I think you could have 50 taps with ten of them rotating through visiting breweries and lesser known local breweries and make it more interesting.
The staff is reasonably knowledgeable but quite young and clearly overwhelmed by the numbers of choices.
I have been here twice in the last four months and doubt that I'll frequent it very often given the prices but if you had one day in greater Seattle and wanted to try Hale's, Elysian, Snoqualmie, Fish, Deschutes, Pike and Hair of the Dog breweries this is the place to go. It's actually not that far from Sea Tac airport (twenty minutes by cab) so I suppose it could even be tried on a layover.
One of the newest additions to the Bellevue area, which sits about a 15 minutes drive east of downtown Seattle. A very trendy place that sits in the Galleria building which includes among other things a Rock Bottom Brewery, Tower Records, movie theatre, and a Hooters to boot.
As for the venue itself, a very relaxing place that offers both a large dining area for those who want to dive into their array of steaks, chops, seafood, and sushi offerings, most of which fall into the "fusion" category -- and quite well I might add. Those who want a more relaxing place to mingle can head over to the bar area, which is a decent size for a pub/restaurant, but could be larger considering they stock the largest beer selection north of the Yard House in Long Beach, CA.
Food wise, I've been quite satisfied with what I've had on the two ocassions I've visited. First time, I enjoyed a full multi-course meal in the dining room and the second time, just last week, I made my way to the bar to cozy up with some beer and some of their affordably priced, happy hour, sushi specials. Be forewarned that cigar smoking is a trendy habit here that can effect the enjoyment of some of the most delicate offerings on their menu.
Because they offer 160 different beers on tap, ranging from Pacific Northwest favorites to some Belgian rarities, it may be a good idea to ask for the price before placing your order. They're lengthy tap menu splits varieties into the basic categories, ales, barley wine, stouts, bitters, etc. etc. Sadly, they really don't tell you anything else about the beer, at the very least, it would be nice to see prices and brewery region.
Beer wise, they have a great selection, but focus too heavily on the regular Pacific Northwest and California region. but, kudos for having tap rarities like Ayinger's Celebrator, Hoegaarden, La Trappe, and Lucifer on tap. But with kudos, caution need also be given as these items carry HEFTY prices ranging upwards of $11 a glass -- and since many of the rare items are served in traditional glassware, you'll be lucky to get anything more than 1/2 pints worth.
Nevertheless, outside of the rare items, all the other beers I've had have fallen in the $4-6 a pint which is reasonable for this level of establishment.
PS. Parking in the area is a pain, but they do validate parking if you can squeeze into the underground parking facility situated on the backside of the building.
The Tap House is located a stone's throw away from the Rock Bottom brewery in downtown Bellevue. Both pubs are situated in the same 3 story shopping center housing one of the best movie theaters on the east side. The atmosphere in the bar + grill areas is very upscale and trendy. The bar sports 160 beers on tap most of which are NW brews. I found the list impressively large, but at the same time disappointing. While you should have no problem finding something you would like (I had an Arrogant Bastard), I found they could have done a lot more with specialty beers from some of the smaller brewers. As it stands the beer list consisted of a lot of beers you could get from the brewpub less than 15 minutes away. These are personal gripes which is why I still rated the selection as a 4.0. The food was quite good and was delivered quickly. The menu is little upscale featuring steak, seafood, and sushi but they also serve burgers and a decent selection of salads. Overall the experience was a good one.
(Note from future visit) Be wary of the bartender's knowledge. Was sitting at the bar, enjoying happy hour when someone asked for a good beer. Bartender says "Eye Of the Hawk" from Mendocino. Guest asks "Is it an amber?" and the bartender replies "No it's an ale". *sigh*
(yet another note 2/12/2003) Had a different bartender today that really knew his stuff. Seems like it's hit or miss.
