A ridiculous rampage of ruthless rowdy hops in a rebellious rusty red ale.

12 FL OZ. bottle
Served in an IPA glass
This beer pours rust colored with copper highlights. It is topped with a couple inches of tan head that leaves a little lacing.
I get some malty and earthy notes along with some spiciness like rye and tea.
The taste is pretty much like it smells. It tastes malty and spicy with some tea flavor and mild bitterness in the finish.
Medium, chalky mouthfeel
I didn't check the date on the single when I bought it. It is basically a red ale at 8-9 months old.

OddSide Ales Red Eye P.A.
Well ladies and gentleman as always it has been fun rediscovering something I have loved so much. By unfortunately due to current life circumstances this will likely be my last review for a while. Could be days, weeks, maybe even months but it won't be as consistent and often as it has been over the past month. Anyway, on to the review.
Look - Bottle is a gusher and demands to be poured the second the top pops. Pours a deep dark cherry red with a finger and a half of off white head that retains well and decreases slowly though leaves a cap of froth on top of the drink. Beer is impenetrable by the lighting in this room so the carbonation is completely impossible to get a read on. Lacing remnants are very slight and mostly concentrated towards the top of the glass. 3.5.
Smell - Very malt forward consisting of a pungent flax bread and sweet cherry initial introduction met in the midfield by a heavily toasted aspects. Hops are floral and only come through in moderate waves. 3.5.
Taste - Extremely malt heavy with flax and dark breads along with a noticable bitter almost earthy hoppiness. There is a large presence of onions and garlic attributed to stale hops so the beer is clearly quite old and lacking a best by date. Despite that, this is one of the more drinkable ' onion bombs ' I have had. 3.
Feel - Body is underwhelming and quite dead in terms of carbonation. Some creamyness comes through due to the retained cap of what was once the head 3.
Overall - Wasn't bad, though wasn't particularly good. A very average beer in my opinion. Pass in the future for sure. 3..

$2.49 single that should have been pulled from the shelf -- realized it's dated 3/14/14. Could be an 8, but I'm pretty certain it's a 3. Yikes...
Appearance: Hard pour gave a creamy finger of beige head that dies down to a ring around the glass. The beer is a really hazy beer bottle sort of color. Nice pour.
Smell: "Red" smelling. It has that sort of aroma -- whatever that means -- with a fair amount of rye. Hops are there a decent bit, surprisingly. Earthy and herbal notes accent the rye and "red" malt aroma. Surely not as hop heavy as it was fresh, but it still smells very good.
Taste/feel: Definitely past its peak -- I get that feeling mid-sip -- but still much better than many at-their-freshest Rye IPAs out there. There's mostly a rye flavor with some lingering earthiness and herbs. Pleasant somewhat bitter finish. The feel is about moderate, with a really high, prickly carbonation that's just a little too much, I think.
It's a decent beer. I'm sure I'd prefer it if the bottle wasn't 9 months old, but even as it is, it's a respectable brew from Odd Side.
