L: Medium gold and bright with a white head of creamy fluff, there's solid retention and good lacing to this one.
S: A nice hops presence makes itself known inside a bit of wood and vanilla. Very nicely rounded with a bit of citrus and tropical fruits and earthy grassiness.
T: I'm really torn about this score because this is a delicious beer but touting it as a DIPA makes me want the hoppiness to be more pronounced. The barrel makes it taste like vanilla is actually added to it and imparts some caramel sweetness as well.
F: This is a fluffy but still crisp beer that is exceedingly smooth. The feel is very good. No bite or harshness, cleaner than expected, just great overall in a medium-full body with lots of brightness. It barely keeps from being overly effervescent.

12 FL. OZ. bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours amber in color with golden highlights. It is hazy and topped with an inch of beige head that leaves decent lacing.

It has light bourbon notes. The malt comes through with some faded hop aromas.

It has bourbon in the taste with vanilla and caramel along with booze. There is just enough bitterness in the finish to keep it from being too sweet.

Medium mouthfeel

This is pretty solid with almost a year and a half of age on it. It is a not a commonly aged style that is a treat to try. I did it for a change of pace.

Boozy mess. Taste like straight up bourbon. Barely any hop presence. Moth feel is tacky and medium biddies. Very one dementional. Maybe with age the barrel will fade and the good will be there, but fresh this is not a good beer for the style of ba ipa

Pours hazy, murky orange with not too much head, save for about a 1/2" of white foaminess that settles down quickly. Nose is almost entirely alcohol. In fact, that's all I am getting from it. Taste is much better, and for all the alcohol in the nose, its nearly the last thing I get. Wood, bourbon, and grapefruit dominate until the sweetness and alcohol pipe in. Finishes slightly bitter but mostly sweet from this medium bodied beer.

Big somewhat boozy DIPA, but good drinkability given these rules. Fresh bottle from Holiday Market, Royal Oak. Lots of hop flavour, bourbon giving it more booziness character.

Aroma is caramelly sweet and oaky, with substantial fruity hop character, mainly citrus pith, floral notes, and a touch of vanilla.

Flavor is sweet and bourbony, fairly hot, with a moderately bitter finish. Underlying notes of resin detract from the significant sweetness. There's a touch of underlying hop fruit that adds depth, becoming more like candied tangerines than your typical hop notes.

I picked up a bottle of Oddside's Nihilist a couple weeks ago for $4.59 at The Lager Mill. I've had El Dankerino many times, but I'm not sure how it would be bourbon barrel aged and I'm interested to see how this one turns out, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a snifter.

A- The label is nice, it goes well with the name and it's e ye catching. It poured a nice darker orange color that took on more of a golden orange hue when held to the light with a little over two fingers worth of very creamy very light tan head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some patchy lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of sweetness with a fruity hop aroma being the first the first to show up and it imparts all those nice unique fruit hops aromas from El Dankerino with pineapple, citrus rinds and light coconut like aromas coming through. Up next comes a sweet and creamy aroma that goes into a noticeable caramel aroma that flows right into the bourbon barrel which is on the lighter side with more of a light bourbon, oak and vanilla like aspects coming through. Towards the end comes some sweet malts and a light alcohol aroma. This beer has a good aroma, the bourbon barrel works surprisingly well with it.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but lighter and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the fruity hops still being the first to show up and they impart all the same fruity aspects that it did in the aroma with no single aspect sticking out the most. Up next comes some sweet malts that lead into the alcohol which is noticeable and a little warming, but it's not overly boozy and it's followed by that same caramel aspect that I got in the aroma that mixed with the bourbon barrel which impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma. On the finish there's somewhat lighter amount of medium bitterness with some sweetness and alcohol also showing up and it had a fruity hop aftertaste along with some caramel and bourbon barrel flavors. This is a good tasting beer, it's easy to tell that it's still El Dankerino and the bourbon barrel just adds a little to it and it doesn't really take away from the base beer which is nice.

M- Fairly smooth, crisp, not too boozy, on the thicker side of being medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a good beer and good example of the style, it had all the aspects that I was looking for and I thought it was the balance that really helped this beer, if the balance was any different I don't think it would be as good. This beer had ok drinkability, one is enough for me, it might start to get boozy if I have more than one. What I like the most about this beer was the balance, it's just where it needs to be. What I like the least about this beer is nothing, it's fine just the way it is. I would buy this beer again and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique DIPA with a little bit of bourbon barrel to it. All in all I was happy with this beer and I was little impressed how well the bourbon barrel worked with it, I still prefer the original version, but this is still a nice take on it. It's not a favorite Oddsides beer and It's a good example of a bourbon barrel aged DIPA. Good job guys, this is a tasty and unique beer, keep up these creative brews.
