All bless the docoman for sending this 12 oz. bottle, complete with 4th grade art project label, my way. Hipster Brunch? Damn near perfect. With RYE? Uuuuuuh. Bottle dated 10/27/16 with the “drink fresh” command. I hope I’m not too late.

The pour is darkest brown, kissing both cheeks of black. Smells like barrel, not beer - spicy rye, vanilla, & molasses. Just like my soap.

Rye Hipster Brunch tastes like the perfect Saturday morning…you know, when you get up about noon. Waiting for you is a nice shot of high-quality rye whiskey, spicy, hot, making my newly trimmed chest hair start growing again. The base beer is slow to emerge until this warms a bit & escapes the dominant rye (no complaints here): more spices, strong raw maple syrup, booze, vanilla, gentle toe of roast right at the end. After a few sips the boozy rye warms all the way to my anal fuzz, & I have to lose my fleece. Sharp, bitter, rough. I drink. I drink, lots.

Congratulations Odd Side. In almost nine years of beer reviews, this is my sixth perfect “5”. This beer is insanely good. I. Need. More.

This is one of the times where a barrel treatment really adds to the base beer... regular Hipster is awesome, but a little over the top with the sweet flavors. The Rye barrels balance that out and make a dangerously drinkable stout!

Bottled 2/20/2017. Poured into stout glass. It pours a deep walnut with ruby hues when held to the light, and a full finger of fluffy, khaki-colored head and extensive and elegant lacing that graced the glass through the pour. What an aroma: roasted malt, dark chocolate, coffee, maple syrup, tobacco smoke, and a whiff of booze. And what a flavor! The first thing I tasted was the maple syrup and wood smoke. Then, there's the coffee. It's like crawling out of your tent on a camping trip when someone else has started breakfast. But there's lots more: milk chocolate, caramel, oak, rye, molasses, and whiskey. And it's no mishmash of flavors; each is distinct and yet the blend magnificently to create a unique and flavorful stout. It features a creamy, viscous mouth feel with pleasant carbonation. It's also quite boozy with its 11% ABV. It's most definitely a sipper and ideal for after dinner. Overall, its a unique and thoroughly satisfying Imperial Stout. It's really hard to compare to others. I'm just glad to have tried it and hope to do so again. Thank you, @superspak!

Appearance - Pour black with thick dense tan head.

Aroma - Just a ton going on maple syrup, oak, rye whiskey, I am not getting any coffee but the bacon is there along with a little smoke. Lots of chocolate and vanilla as well.

Taste - Oh my goodness, so tasty maple syrup hits first. The bacon is there for sure along with vanilla and whiskey. The whiskey is not overpowering it is amazing how balanced all of these flavors are.

Feel - full bodied creamy feel, soft carbonation so smooth how a stout should feel.

Overall - Just an amazing beer great aroma taste and feel.

Smoke swirls out of the bottle for a good amount of time after opening. It pours a dark red ribbon and fills to a dark muddy brown with a moderate tan foam that bubbles down to a thin, persistent, unbroken tan film.

Smell is slightly smoky peanut butter and chocolate with a little cola and hints of salty bacon and faint bourbon.

I taste the smoky bacon element right up front just before a dense, heavy chocolate mocha peanut butter takes over. A slight hint of spicy wood and bourbon runs in the background, but really not very much. The up front touch of bacon upon the first sip was the only moment that I detected it.

The feel is really nice, thick and full with a thin crisp carbonation and a fulfilling, semi-dry, dense swallow.

Rye Hipster almost seems like a different beer from regular Hipster. It's creamier, thicker, and nuttier, but is also less like the maple, bacon, coffee beer it aims to be. I'm not mad at it, but some folks might be.

2+2=5 explains my overall rating.

What a beer. It tastes entirely different from Hipster Brunch in that it has an incredible amount of depth. Great vanilla flavors, much more bourbon, toned back smoke/bacon flavor so things are all balanced out... this beer should honestly have a different name. Hipster Brunch is good and all, but this is next level stuff with many more layers of flavor. This'll be the next "got to have whale."

I need more.

11/29/16 EDIT: Well, I got more. Time for a better review, no?

I'd say it's as good as I remember when I had it on-tap a couple months ago. Truly incredible stuff... a stand out, and a world class brew that will maybe finally be getting national attention. The smell on this alone will make you want to pour it down your gullet -- so complex: vanilla, rye, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, some bourbon, a smoked meat vibe from the bacon, maple syrup sweetness, and a trace of booze. Seriously, can you guys just give me this as a candle? One of the best things I've ever smelled.

The taste is all of what I listed on the smell... each sip is different. One moment it tastes mostly of rye and bourbon, then the next it's vanilla and chocolate, then on others it's bacon and maple syrup. It's meticulously well-crafted, and it shows. No flavor overpowers the other, and everything is blended in perfect harmony. Thirsty yet?

If that's not enough, the mouthfeel on this is perfect. It's not super thick, but it's smooth as silk and keeps the delicious flavors in your mouth for a little while after each sip. Ahhh...

Incredible. I can see how the bacon may turn some people off to this beer -- whether it's actually the bacon or smoked malt, that smoked meat aroma and flavor I can see being a bit of an annoyance to some, but I enjoy it. It makes this beer different. The maple syrup flavor and sweetness to balance it in this is just enough.

I've said too much. I need to keep drinking. Cheers!

Poured 12oz bottle into tulip. Black as coal with a thin 1 finger tan colored head. Light does not pass through this black beauty. Thin ring remains and lacing is minimal. The aroma fills the air with a sweet maple and coffee scent. The bourbon and vanilla, mocha, dark chocolate all collide along with roasted malts and molasses. Not really picking up on the bacon. Waves of coffee, sweet bourbon, maple and dark chocolate with vanilla. Notes of roasted malt, mocha, and molasses, and probably a bit of smoke/salt from the bacon. Some warming from the alcohol in the finish. Absolute joy to sip on. Rich and creamy with a thick mouthfeel. Decent amount of carbonation for a barrel aged beer. This was sublime with a nice maple coffee flavor.

Pours transparent brown.. Off white head. I'm immediately skeptical. An imperial stout that isn't black with a brown head, isn't imperial.. bad first impression.
Smell.. my opinion immediately changes. Tons of maple, coffee, sweet vanilla, slight rye spice. Outstanding.
Flavor is more vanilla and bitter, rich coffee. Maple is used so well here. It can absolutely dominate stouts, but this is used with such skilled level of restraint. Just the amount that's needed.
Drinks relatively thin, but smooth. If this beer was more viscous, it would be world class.

Form the 12 oz bottle in a snifter. This mighty brew pours a
rich obsidian with a nice head of tan foam that subsides to a
thick ring, thin pooling layer, and shows nice lacing. Nose of
coffee, smoke, bourbon, brulee, char, vanilla, dark chocolate,
and sweet maple notes. Flavors follow the nose but exceed with
a quality presentation. Waves of sweet bourbon and brown sugars
wash over notes of vanilla cream and maple with coffee and
dark sweet chocolate mingling with cola and balanced char and smoke.
Excellent mouth feel; full body, smooth, rich, light carbonation,
coating, lightly slick, and finishing warm and sweet.

Overall, a EXCEPTIONAL brew from a great little brewery!

Cheers
