Bottled 2/13/17; drank 6/24/17 @ the Yarchives. Cloudy orange/yellow appearance. A rough pour yielded a nice white head; strong, frothy lace. Cream soda, buttery chardonnay & faint strawberry notes in the nose. Medium thick mouthfeel. Buttery chardonnay & cream soda flavors; faint strawberry notes on the finish. A chardonnay bomb; not my wine profile but this drank OK. Glad I only bought one...

Not as overly complex as I expected with the wine barrel aging, but this is very similar to Delerium Tremens IMO, recommend people who like an easy drinking belgian strong

I picked up a bottle of Oddside's Catalina Beer Mixer for $5.59 at The Lager Mill. I wasn't sure about this beer because it was on the expensive side, but I decided to take a chance on it anyways, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a teku.

A- The label looks nice, it goes well with the name and it's a little eye catching. I t poured a golden orange color which takes on more of a yellow color when held to the light and it had fingers worth of off white head that quickly faded to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left just a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This is a nice looking beer, but I wish the head and retention were better.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of sweetness with a big banana aroma being the first to show up and it has a candied banana aroma to it that reminds of a little of banana runt candy and it's got more fruity aromas in the background. Up next comes a good amount of noticeable spices from the yeast, but no single one stick out the most. Up next comes more sweetness and a little bit of alcohol and it's followed by the wine barrel which is light and it imparts more of a fermented fruit aroma with just a slight white aroma and it's followed by the malts which impart some sweet malt, pale malt and slightly bready aromas, This beer has a nice aroma, but I wish the wine barrel showed up more.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the big banana aspect still being the first to show up and it's a little lighter this time and slightly less candied, but it's still the aspects that show up the most in this beer. Up next comes a little more fruitiness and it;s followed b y the spices which are a little more toned down this time and it's followed by a very light amount of wine barrels with just a slight white wine aroma coming through and it's followed by a little more sweetness with a little alcohol flavors. On the finish comes the malts which impart all the same aspects that they do in the aroma with the sweet malts sticking out the most. On the finish there's a lower amount of bitterness with a banana, fruit, spicy and belgian yeast like aftertaste. This is a decent tasting beer, but I wish the wine barrels showed up a lot more.

M- A little smooth, a little cloying, pretty crisp, on the slightly lighter side of being medium bodied with a higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a decent beer and it's a decent example of the style, it's not bad and it doesn't really have any off flavors, but it doesn't like how I was hoping it would and I thought the wine barrels needed to be showcased more. This beer didn't have the best drinkability, one is more than enough for me. What I like the most about this beer is the appearance and aroma, they were nice and the highlight of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is the lack of wine barrel flavors, it makes it not live up to it's description. I wouldn't buy this beer again and I can't say I would recommend. it's too expensive for what you get. All in all I wasn't a big fan of this beer, it didn't bad, but the flavors weren't really inline with the description. It's not a favorite beer from this brewery and it's average at best for the style. Better luck next time guys, this one could use some work.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/13/2017. Pours fairly hazy medium golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big lemon, peach, pear, apple, fruit peel, peppercorn, white wine, oak, clove, wheat, cracker, white bread, light banana, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, earthy hops, and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, peach, pear, apple, fruit peel, peppercorn, white wine, oak, clove, wheat, cracker, white bread, light banana, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast/tannic wine barrel spiciness, herbal bitterness; touch of tart/tangy wine notes on the finish. Lingering flavors of lemon, peach, pear, apple, fruit peel, peppercorn, white wine, oak, clove, wheat, cracker, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, earthy hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, crisp, dry, moderately grainy/sticky, and slightly acidic/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. A mild warmth of alcohol lingers after the finish from the 10% ABV. Overall this is an awesome barrel aged Belgian strong pale ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, wine barrel, earthy hops, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and easy to drink for the ABV. Extremely well balanced between yeast/wine barrel flavors; decent malt backbone, and minimal residual sweetness. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
