12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/4/2018. Pours dense opaque dark brown/black color with a small fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, marshmallow, fudge, brownie batter, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness. Some barrel booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malt, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, marshmallow, fudge, brownie batter, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness. Light herbal/roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, marshmallow, fudge, brownie batter, nuts, dark/brown bread, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, char, leather, tobacco, and yeast/roast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malt, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with an awesome roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mildly increasing warmth of 13%, with minimal barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged imperial stout! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malt, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mellowly bitter/chared/tannic/drying finish. Insanely rich malt complexity, with amazing barrel presence/integration. Not overly boozy/tannic on barrels. Definitely their thickest stout yet, but the tannic barrels and charred malts keep the sweetness in check. A highly enjoyable offering and amazing style example as expected.

Appearance - Pours jet black with a thick tan head that settles to a rocky cap and thick ring. Random sheets of lacing around the glass.

Aroma - Big chocolate aroma, marshmallow, roasted malts, oak, bourbon, vanilla beans, really sweet and rich decadent. This almost reminds me of a liquid fudge brownie.

Taste - Wow really rich dark chocolate, coffee, vanilla beans, roasted malts, almost tastes like rocky road ice creme. Mild oak, great bourbon flavor that works well and does not overpower the other flavors. The taste is just layered and super complex.

Feel - Full bodied smooth, great warming from the alcohol really creamy with a touch of dryness on the finish.

Overall - Amazing is all I can say, excellent flavors spot on mouthfeel other than the heat no sign of the 13% at all. Very dangerous and easy drinking.

i cannot possibly relate to the other review of this, for me, its one of the best barrel aged imperial stouts i can ever recall, a throwback to the days before they all had to be mexican chocolate or smore or whatever else is so trendy right now, no adjuncts at all, and i found it absolutely brilliant, next level, maybe the best beer i have ever had from these guys. thick and dense looking, matte black and long legged and frothy headed, so much body visible, really pretty, stable in the glass. it smells insane, really mature, lots of oak and whiskey, but lots of grain layers too, i cant believe how evolved and complex this is, molasses and licorice and wet tobacco and dark raw chocolate, espresso beans, and things like anise and clove warmth, vanilla and cocoa powder, wood and bark, sarsaparilla, subtle smoke and cherry, massive depth, so awesome. tons and tons of oak, body like silky concrete, leaden and dense, palate coating but smooth, warm but never hot, and just winding down slowly forever, chocolate and whiskey abound at the end, but all the character and richness of this remains as well. surprised how anyone could find this to be anything other than epic, especially since it doesnt rely on all sorts of crazy ingredients to make it happen. old school in that way, really world class, maybe the best of these i have had so far all year long! unforgettable.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip. Thanks Kevin.

Pours a deep brown body with a small off white head that reduces to leave nice lacing.

Aromas are rich and inviting, I’d almost swear there is vanilla in this beer, rich vanilla beans and milk chocolate and a touch of bourbon on the nose.

On the tongue this is equally as amazing. Rich milk chocolate, fudge brownies, brownie batter, leather, vanilla, a touch of bourbon on the finish with roasts aftertaste.

Mouthfeel makes this beer a real winner. It’s so rich and thick without being cloying. Coats the tongue.

This beer is awesome. Every aspect of it is world class, and I can’t beleive it’s 13%.

Nothing subtle about this one. Too sweet and boozy for me.

Smell: Marshmallow, vanilla, fudge, dark chocolate, espresso, tobacco, leather, dry oak, butterscotch, molasses, caramel, light dried dark fruits, sweet decadent Bourbon. The beer smells fantastic. The barrel presence is extremely smooth and complex. I can’t wait to taste this.

Taste: The flavor of this beer mirrors the nose in every way. Loads of rich marshmallow, vanilla, fudge, dark chocolate, espresso, carmel, maple syrup, candied molasses, tobacco, leather, dark fruits, light roasted malts. The bourbon hits the tongue mid palette and is smooth with a nice chest warming effect. The oak and deep wood notes add depth and complexity to the finish. The beer is beautiful on the palette with an amazing blend of rich sweet notes and a barrel presence that is executed exquisitely.

Feel: Medium body a touch on the thin side for a beer that is 13%. Although the beer is so smooth and velvety on the tongue that the thinnish feel doesn’t matter so much. It makes this big beer feel more approachable.

Overall: This is the best beer odd side makes. No Adjuncts in this beer just a barrel. It is so impressive the amount of complexity this has. If you like bourbon barrel aged beers then trade for this. It trades super low and it’s just as good as beers that trade for crazy amounts. This is undoubtedly a 5/5. Amazing job Odd Side!
