Citra Pale AleCitra Pale Ale
Notes: This is our flagship beer which is brewed exclusively with Citra hops. The aroma is an intoxicating bouquet of grapefruit, tropical fruit, lemon, and pine.

12oz can purchased from the fridge as a single for $1.99. MFG 7/1/2020, so this is 40 days old. My first time having anything from this brewery.

Look: Essentially a non-hazy pale ale, you could call it barely hazy. A pretty light orange / golden color. Small bubbles slowly effervescing. A rocky white head has diminished to a thin white foam hugging the surface and sides of the glass.

Smell: Very nice aromas of grapefruit and orange peel up front, floral notes, then a lemon drop sweetness on the back end along with some generic malty notes. Some spicy, piney notes mixed in on the front end too. Really like the way that sweet lemony note comes in; overall, this aroma kind of gives me a "lemon iced tea" vibe.

Taste: Interesting. The taste follows the nose quite well. This is a chugger. Very easy up front - citrus and pine, some mild malty sweetness. Then the finish on this beer is wonderful. A nice bitterness rounds out all corners of your mouth and really leaves you with an almost unsweetened lemon iced tea dryness that has long-lingering grapefruit rind and lemon zest. In all fairness, apart from the finish, it tastes surprisingly light and I would have liked to see greater flavor impact up front and in the core as it comes off a bit watery overall.

Feel: Light to medium mouthfeel, appropriate level of carbonation. Works well for a 5.75% American Pale Ale.

Overall: It's kind of funny to call this beer a throwback, because it uses exclusively citra hops, but to me it seems that it is very much brewed in a west coast or "old school" style. This beer reminds me a bit of Daisy Cutter Pale Ale; I see a lot of similarities, but with different hops used in each beer. Would be interesting to blind taste test those two beers along with some other classic American Pale Ales like Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Anchor Steam, Firestone Walker, etc. I'll pick this up again for sure, would look forward to enjoying an even fresher can!

I was lucky enough to have a 4 day old Zombie Dust and a 6 day old Citra this week and I've got to say that Citra blew me away. I didn't have them side by side but in my opinion, Citra is what all the hype makes you believe Zombie Dust tastes like.

Even if you think I'm out of my mind, Citra is an awesome beer.

Thanks to Another6Pack for this one! 12 oz bottle into a teku.

Appearance: Pours a dark orange color. The head is a finger high and white in shade. It has a soft yet bubbly texture and decent retention. Some lacing sticks to my glass, also. (3.75)

Smell: I pick up some decent tropical fruits, along with some slight grassiness. The nose in general doesn't seem remotely bitter. Letting it open up will reveal some confectioner's sugar notes, as well as defining some grapefruit hop qualities. Maybe it's a bit too heavily malted for my tastes, but it's a genuinely well-balanced pale ale. And I do mean 'balanced', not just 'LOTS OF MALT LOL'. (3.5)

Taste: Vibrant tropical fruit notes open it up. Mainly, I pick up melon, mango, pineapple, and guava. This beer has just the right amount of bitterness: it's subtle on the back end, helping to balance the beer's sweetness some, yet never ridiculous. Even still, the aforementioned sweetness is light on the crystal malt (THANK CRIPES) and heavier on crackery pale malt. Some finishing diacetyl is slightly annoying, otherwise this is a tasty pale ale. (3.75)

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied at first, it dries out well post-swallow. There's a light lingering sweetness left, but it works well the flavor profile. Carbonation is rather gentle - luckily this beer is naturally dry enough to not render this problematic. (3.5)

Overall: It's not perfect, but damn is this enjoyable. It brings the fruity notes I like, keeps the bitterness low (but not zero), and isn't overloaded with malt sweetness. Basically, a great every day if only I could somehow get Odd Side to distribute to MD... (3.75)

3.67/5: Well it shows off Citra nicely, that's for sure

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a pale amber body with orange hues and a quickly dissipating off-white somewhat foamy head. Lacing was barely there. The aroma had a ton of citrus rolling into light tropical tones of mango, pineapple, grapefruit, and then gently backed up by some light pine. The taste takes the harsh bitter side of the citrus to combine nicely through the sweet tones of the tropical notes. There’s a light aftertaste of citrus sweet to bitterness rolling into a semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionable bitter dry feel rolling over my tongue. Overall, APA or AIPA, I don’t know, but real good, wish I could get it on a daily basis

Reminds me of zombie dust in aroma. Resin, pine, grapefruit, mango, pineapple emerge, adding with orange, lemon zest, and outreach. Really juicy fruit salad notes.

Flavor reveals a hint of grapefruit tartness, then bitter pith, which lingers into the moderately bitter, resiny finish. The toasted, bready malt doesn't lend much sweetness to counter. Muddled tropical fruit surfaces late.

If the flavoring hops were more citra-like, matching the aroma, this would be killer. Little more bitter than I prefer.

Excellent beer. Up there with Two hearted (different style. Calm down, snobs). Bottled conditioned is a huge plus. Would I purchase this again? That's a no-brainer. My go to for drinking in GH state park (lol). Great job, Oddside.

Pours a hazy amber color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Great retention and great lacing. Smells of rye, piney hops, slight spicy hops, slight sorghum, earthiness, hint of grass, and slight alcohol. Fits the style of an American Pale Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of rye, piney hops, slight spicy hops, slight sorghum, earthiness, hint of grass, and slight alcohol. Overall, good appearance, complex, decent aroma, but heavy on the earthiness.

No date. Required review - doesn't burst with juiciness like advertised. Mild spice and dull malt backbone. Lightly bitter, oily, grassy/spicy hoppiness.

Dank like Willie Nelson's tour bus, Raul is feeling this. Now, the main man usually isn't into the more "grassy" offerings, but this is a bell that Raul would like to toll. (Does that make sense?)

Great, just good things. Pure like you wish your daughter was, and all around exceptional like your cousin that’s in grad school.
