Smell is straight peanut butter and chocolate. Taste follows suit but with addition of typical stout flavors. Raisin and molasses kick it off followed by dark coffee and chocolate and the peanut butter a distant aftertaste. Not bad but not what I wanted either. Probably my last time with this one.

Pours nearly black with large, chintzy beige bubbles. Strong aroma of dry peanut. Taste is overwhelmingly dominated by a really strong dry roasted peanut flavor. Still, some chocolate and roasted malts are detectable and add to the experience. A bit sweet. Actually tastes pretty good, sort of like a Sweet Baby Jesus. Mouthfeel and carbonation is lacking. Overall easy drinking and quite nice, but would benefit from greater balance between the chocolate and peanut.

Solid stout. Peanut butter came through on the pallet at the beginning and more chocolate/bitter at the end. Would have liked more peanut flavor

this brewery has the right name "odd side ales" they come out with some crazy ingrediantes in their beers . the flavors are fantastic - almost overwhelming . it does still have some of the small bits of peanuts floating in it , so you may want to filter in a glass

Well, my transition from Left Hand to the next brewery horizontal was not as seamless as I had planned. I found a couple of other miscellaneous CANs that dovetail nicely with the current antics. Somehow, my (temporary) focus has become peanut butter & chocolate, whether in a Porter or a Stout! Anything for The CANQuest (tm).

From the CAN: "Stout Brewed with Lactose, Chocolate and Natural Flavorings of Peanut Butter and Roasted Peanuts Added."; "Peanut Butter Cup Stout [-] The name says it all! Flavors of Chocolate and Peanut Butter come together in this delicious Stout."

I Crack!ed open the vent & given my success with an inverted Glug these past few beer, I decided to CANtinue the trend. I was going at it great guns until intense foaming action forced me to back down & off. A pseudo-cascade led to the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, deep-tan/light-brown head with modest retention. Color was Very Dark Brown to Black/Opaque (SRM = > 34, < 44), allowing cola highlights to be seen at the edges. Nose was less chocolate than maple syrup, although the peanut butter was quite evident. Hmm. Mouthfeel was big, thick, full & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. 8=O That is always a bit disconcerting! The taste was rich, less chocolaty than maple syrup, but the peanut butter was a huge presence. For all of that, the finish was surprisingly semi-dry. I was rather amazed by this. In sum, it was more of a novelty drink than one that I would want to drink multiple times, especially in one sitting. It could be CANstrued as a dessert beer, which would be fine. YMMV.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of peanut butter, little else. Taste is peanut butter, roasted malts, light chocolate. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Dark, dark mahogany brown pour. Nearly black with 1.5 fingers of foamy white head. Great ring of lacing.

S: Peanut butter and milk chocolate mixed with some roast character.

T.F: Sweet up front. Strong peanut butter and cocoa, so everything as advertised. Modestly bitter roast for balance. Faint vanilla and walnut. Medium bodied.... sticky on the palate. Fairly smooth.

O: Just as advertised. A peanut butter and cocoa stout. Easy drinking... nice dessert beer.

Poured from a can into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a very dark brown color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a good sum of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is huge of a peanut butter smell mixed with a strong showing of milk chocolate. Along with these smells comes some light notes of caramel and vanilla, giving a delicious peanut butter cup aroma overall.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweet milk chocolate flavor that has a nice bit of roasted malt flavor. The peanut butter is present right from the start but begins a bit on the lighter side. As the taste advances the peanut butter really ramps up in intensity all while gaining some sweetness due to some almost confectioner like sugar tastes coming to the tongue. At the end, when the peanut butter is the strongest, the milk chocolate surges a bit, all while the roast diminishes, leaving one with a robust and sweet milk chocolate peanut butter cup flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and creamy with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. For the rich chocolate and peanut butter tastes and dessert style of the brew the feel is fantastic and makes for a nice sipping dessert feel.

Overall – A very tasty brew. Like a peanut butter cup in a glass. Most excellent!!
